Have you ever broken a bone? If so, how did it happen?!

Me & DH were chatting and realised that neither of us had ever suffered a broken bone, and it got me wondering if that was unusual...
Are all your bones intact, and if not, why not?! Shock

I broke a bone in my little toe playing football bare foot. About a week before I got married I think.

Leg, car crash when I was five. I probably should be dead, but my mum had just shouted at me to sit still (before seatbelts) so I was sulking in the back seat. 10 seconds earlier I would have gone through the windscreen.

Zombie broke her wrist when she was 8. She was freewheeling down her grandparents' gravel driveway and applied the brakes in a patch of gravel. Big mistake.

She broke her big toe by running into the leg of the washing machine.

She then broke the same wrist when she was 14 after being knocked over playing basketball in PE.

The best one is the time she broke her nose playing tackle frisbee at 3 in the morning when she was at uni.

I broke my 5th metatarsal falling off a kerb when I was 18. I told my boyfriend at the time that it couldn't be broken because I'd never broken a bone and I didn't intend to start now.

Broke my humerus on a skiing holiday.

I was taking off one ski and got knocked flat by someone out of control.

My friends had gone to a bar. I was taken down to hospital in a lift. Had no documents on me, so they made me swipe my credit card before administering morphine the heartless barstewards.

Spiral fracture. Eight hour operation and a metal bar/screws. Damaged my nerve and had to have a hand brace. Huge scar as they had to really open up the arm. 20 staples.

I can't watch the You've Been Framed snow accidents - they make me feel really nauseous and sweaty. Blush

How long have you got?! Grin
Spectacularly, by falling down 40 stairs (and not hitting any on the way down), I landed sat on the edge of the bottom step with my ankle under me. Open fracture foot and ankle and snapped ligaments

Very unspectacular. Foot hurt for a week. Went to x ray. Ankle and foot broken in 3 places. No idea how Hmm

Cheekbone and eye socket. Assaulted (punched in face)

Foot (again) horse trod on me

Viva doesn't just win the thread, she wins the jeffing Internet.

I've broken my left arm and wrist 3 times

  1. Falling off playground slide age 8 - very bad break, needed a general anaesthetic and a week in hospital.
  2. Falling off bike, age 16
  3. Snowboarding accident, age 28 or so

Many, many broken toes and fingers.

I broke all eight fingers playing basket ball with my cousin when I was 14. The hospital taped my fingers together and my friends spent weeks taking the piss because I looked like I was doing the Vulcan salute from star trek!

I also broke my wrist when I was 17 on a drunken night out after I slipped on a spilt drink.

I also broke my ankle falling off a ladder but as I was 8 months pregnant the hospital wouldn't xray it and now it's healed wrong and hurts if i wear heels Sad

This thread is making me feel slightly ill.

Just the one break here - wrist. Age 8, was trying to jump forwards off a swing as it reached the high point. Didn't time it right, and fell off backwards.

Neither DH nor any of my DCs have ever broken anything.

I broke my big toe about 6 months ago falling down the last six stairs and kicking the baby gate.

Did the exact same thing to the exact same toe 3 months ago.

Bloody hate that baby gate.

Lots of broken bones!

Broke same wrist three times, falling downstairs (sober each time) & various other thumb/hand bones too

Metatarsal & various other foot bones when DP dropped an enormous ikea flat-pack on my foot, corner down (as painful as it sounds)

Think my DD broke my nose last night, when she head butted me. A big cracking sound, saw stars & a very, very sore nose, which now makes a cracking noise move it from side to side.

On the plus side, it seems a bit straighter now, after I cracked last time, falling off a log-bridge thing when I was a guide.

I broke my leg when I was seven by tripping over an untied shoelace, (and obviously falling awkwardly) onto a tiled floor. I don't remember it hurting - I just couldn't put any weight on it.

Didn't break anything, in fact had never even been to A&E or minor injuries until I was 37.

Then I fell off my horse and landed on my hand. Broke 7 bones in my hand, dislocated the bones in it, ripped the long bones in my forearm apart, broke my elbow and ripped through a nerve.

It doesn't work now.

I managed to avoid breaking anything until in my mid 40s when I broke my ankle simply by going over on it when I missed my footing on a step.

Broke a toe kicking an immovable object while getting out of a hotel bed to attend to the baby.

Same baby, slightly older, broke my nose with her head while on my lap on a plane.

She's nine now and I'm never going to let her forget it Xmas Grin
