Can anyone recommend a podiatrist in Leeds? Arthritis in big toe - advice needed

I've got arthritis in my big toe and need some help. Can anyone recommend someone they've seen?

Or do you know anything about arthritis in the big toe. My GP said to use orthotics but I don't know where to start finding the right ones. Or what sort of shoes I should be wearing.

I think i should keep it flexible so I manipulate it for a few mins each night, but now I'm worried that I'm grinding away at the joint even more.

Gah, I hate getting old.

Nope but can offer sympathy and wot not. It hurts! Pilates for feet has helped a bit. It's the rocker shoes I was told to wear. I was told that by consultant so assume its right. Avoid sandals which mean u grip with ur toes. Like the plague! if you want a moan do pm me.

Thanks MrsJack - will see if I can get some in the sales and see if that helps

Your GP should be able to refer you to an NHS podiatrist who'll make you some orthotics. Odd that they didn't!

I have arthritis in my big toe (and a bunion in the other less affected toe) and GP told me to see podiatrist privately. Perhaps a single toe or two is below the threshold for NHS support in a working age adult. I only later discovered there is a foot service in the NHS. Anyway I now have orthotics that tilt my feet away from the inside of my foot (correcting overpronation) and the toes are behaving better. It was quite expensive, but as my orthotics are more than 4 years old I guess it isn't quite so bad. It is possible to buy off the shelf orthotics, (such as orthoheel) but really you need to see a foot specialist to work out what is best for you.
