Stomach bug... Imodium or not?

Help me, please Sad i am suffering from the second stomach bug I've ever had. God it's awful. I'll try not to be too graphic, but it started about 4am with just vomiting, then the diarrhoea started about 6am. Now, the vomiting has mostly subsided, but the diarrhoea is still going strong. Thank god I can actually get fluids down now, but whatever I drink just passes through within 15-30 minutes.

Obviously this is pretty ghastly, and I guess Imodium might slow it down a bit, but is that really just going to prolong the agony? Should I just carry on drinking fluids in the hope that it'll flush itself out quicker? (Nb, solid food really doesn't sound like a viable option yet. Bleurgh.)

Any expert advice?

No try not to take Imodium unless you have you. ie need to go out. You need to get this bug out of your system as quick as you can by taking imodium this will just keep the bug in your system. Only advice i can give is have a nice warm bath and put talc on your bum so it doesn't get to sore and hopefully will pass through you in the next 24 hours. Hope you feel better soon x

Let your body do what it needs to do. Just make sure you're not getting dehydrated which is the main danger with d&v (pinch skin on the back of your hand, it should go flat immediately once you let go, if not you're dehydrated). Imodium won't help you get better faster.

Thank you, you wonderful people... Yeah, I think I knew deep down that there's no get out of jail free card for this. Husband has just returned from his travels with dioralyte, which can't do any harm. And the warm bath sounds like a really good idea.

Yes, Dioralyte. A bath will make you feel much better if you have the energy. Then just try and sleep if you can.

Sounds like norovirus.

Imodium will not help any; this needs to run its course.

Sips of water and dioralyte could help. No solid food at all.

Ha-ha-ha... Sad The very thought of solid food is still making me retch, so I don't think that's going to be a problem!

What about temperature? It's escalated from 37.6 degC at midday, to 38.7degC at 17:00, and now down to 38.0 degC after a couple of paracetamol (all measured orally). I'm sure I'm being really melodramatic about it all, because I rarely get ill, and I find it hard to believe anyone could live through this horror!!! Wink but is there a temperature at which you should start to worry?

your temp is pretty much normal- isn't normal 38.4?

when you feel a bit better grated apple ( must be grated) stops the runs- eat it with the juice.

I had a terrible bug for 5 days and anything I ate or drank went through me. Keep sipping water then try dry toast or porridge when you feel up to it.

Having a temperature when you're ill is the body's way of fighting off the infection (if that's what it is) so yes, you're being melodramatic (in the nicest possible way!).
