Excessive sleeping

Does anybody know about excessive sleeping?

I seem to be sleeping on average 17 hours a day when not in work.

I work shifts often doing nights and can wake up for work. But on my days off I can't seem to wake up and just spend all day asleep.

I have started to take iron but it hasn't changed anything.
I'm not depressed, my mood is fine.

Does anybody have any ideas? Feels like I am sleeping my life away!

Do you have anyone at home that could say whether you have any symptoms of sleep aponea? E.g. Heavy snoring interspersed with not breathing? People with SA don't actually get into proper sleep sleep as each time they catch their breath they are waking up without being conscious of it. My hubby was doing this about 60 times an hour, anything ver 15 times an hour is considered serious.

His main symptom other than the noise, or lack of, in bed was falling asleep at any opportunity during the day as he was so bloody tired! CPAP solved it all and I sleep much better now and he has slept in the day just once in the last 2 years and that was after a heavy night out, so justified!!!

I think it could simply be that your system is completely messed up by the shift work?

I have had similar with 19 year old daughter who was doing bar work, then partying till silly o'clock afterwards. we got very fed up with her just eating and sleeping on her days off or when she wasn't at work. she's now stopped the bar work and is on pretty normal working hours and she is completely back to normal in her sleeping now thank goodness. I was getting worried...

Gorja I did nights for many years and even now (and I now am very old) and sorry it has screwed my sleep pattern up completely and most of my old friends say the same and we could sleep for England on our nights off so I don't think you are unusual.
Good luck.
