Dressings post surgery

Had surgery yesterday to remove a big toe nail, seeing practice nurse at GP tomorrow afternoon to have dressing changed.

Will I need to keep going back to the nurse, at what point do they let you change dressings yourself? Bit squeamish about it all so would prefer not to have to be too up close and personal until it's healed!

Will answer my own query! Have to go back again on Tuesday to have dressing changed again.

Was all rather yuck, hopefully next time I'll be brave enough to have a proper look!

Every day or every other day dependant on the amount of discharge. You toe will probably need dressings for 4-6 weeks. Keep your toe dressed until it's completely healed, feet, shoes and socks carry lots of bacteria.

Forgot to say you can change it yourself after Tuesday I should think. Once you see it for the first time you'll realise it doesn't look so bad and changing it will be easy, in fact you'll be an expert at it by the end.

I think I could have done a better job than the practice nurse, it's rather shabby!!!! Not sure it will last the 4 days needed to take me to Tuesday! At least it's a different nurse who I know personally doing it then (she also works where I work for her day job!)

It's all wrapped up in my slipper sock where I intend to keep it until told otherwise!

About to go and now try and wash properly for the first time - should be interesting not being ale to shower and having no bath!!!!
