You can just carry it misdee - as long as its not in a wound she should be OK. And remember it's resistant - it doesn't mean that the anti-b's won't work, just that it takes a bigger, longer dose of specific stuff.

Some of the littlies on Heartline have tested positive in the past.

i kow she tested positive before and was on barrier. Peter has a different hospital bug in his system which they keep an eye on in case it mutates in MRSA.

Hold tight, Misdee.
The little boy in the room next to DS when he was in hospital had had an MRSA infection inside his orthopaedic surgery- and they got it under control.

i blame the press for all the hype.

Quite a high proportion of the public carry it in normal every day life. Like sagger says it is only really a problem if it is in the wound - it is a type of staph infection, like the one DS had in his burn I think. The difference is that it is resistant to most antibiotics, however it can be treated with Vancomycin still, it just might take a while. She has probably caught it as her immunity is so low at the moment. Hopefully once the antibiotics kick in she will be feeling much better. Good luck to her Misdee.

as others have said, most people carry mrsa on their skin, places such as inside the nose etc are a good haunt for it and it causes no problems what so ever unless it gets into a wound.vancomycin is still pretty effective against mrsa..

Misdee when I was on dialysis I had it twice from my hickman line and it was terrible but had 2 courses of vancomycin(?)and I recovered HTH

I smashed my leg up really badly and almost lost it about 6 years ago in an RTA, and got both MRSA and pseudomonas infections. I had IV Vancomycin and wait for it...rice vinegar poured into my open wound! (pseudomonas doesn't like acidity) I nearly leapt out the bed but it worked a treat. Although this was in SE Asia, so the medics maybe a little less maverick about it! Oh, I was totally fine by the way, and the leg is still present and correct (if a little ugly!) Best wishes for her health. xxx
