Anyone had fibroids removed by hysterocopy?

I am due to have 5 smallish submucousal fibroids removed under general anathestic as they are thought to be the cause of midcycle bleeding. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Yes, I had it done some years ago, though not because they were causing any bleeding problems, discovered by chance post MC and removed as a precaution. All fine now as far as I know (had DC before and after procedure).

Thanks. Can I ask how quick recovery was? They're doing it as day case. Was a bit freaked when they said they'd send off what they remove for analysis even though I know fibroids are usually benign. Well meaning friend said "oh dear you'll have that worry about the results all over xmas!" I'm also a bit worried about what else they'll find even though transvirginal scan showed nothing apart from fibroids and the fact my womb lining is quite thin (2mm) presumably due to years of pill use. I believe cancer is usually found in those with thickened linings?

I also had done as a day case, though ended up staying overnight in the end because I was under anaesthetic a bit longer than expected. As far as I can remember, recovery was fairly quick, maybe a couple of weeks (I was on mat leave, able to care for baby throughout still, bit groggy after the anaesthetic for a day or so). I do remember having wind-like discomfort afterwards - it was explained as the effects of the gas they fill your insides up with so they can get at everything more easily - think it ended up causing pain near my shoulder which seemed a bit weird but apparently not unusual! They also sent off my tissue for analysis, just to confirm it was fibroid material as thought (it was), sure this is completely standard practice, you shouldn't worry unduly and definitely not let it spoil your xmas. Hope it goes well for you.

Thank you. Best ensure I'm on top of the xmas prep then! Still will feel much better when it's all over and the results are back as I find it so hard not to worry about these things....

having a smile :) at your transvirginal- transvaginal.

You should be fine. I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy with no GA or nothing, and my friend had one with a GA for a polyp removal though this too can be done without a GA. She was up and about an hour or so afterwards and in my case I went home by public transport a few hours later.

They don't always use gas- that's more for a laparoscopy and some hysteroscopies. Mr dr used a saline solution to see into the uterus.

Oops! Glad you knew what I meant anyway! Dr gave me impression I'd be fine so presume he won't be using gas. Not ideal so close to xmas but didn't want to leave it as the bleeding is a nuisance and I just want it all over and done with so (fingers crossed) I can get on with my life without worrying.
