Over here for the hand holding.
One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives.
Come and join us if you are waiting, pre op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards.

I rang the gynae yesterday and the secretary was supposed to get back to me today.
she of course hasn't.

I had to tell her twice why I needed to see a specialist and not have my useless gp prescribe it.

I am not happy.

Thanks for your sympathy though.

Twinkletights · 22/01/2014 17:29

Ledkr it is shocking that this was not sorted before you left the hospital, keep calling his secretary back until it is sorted.

Just awful that they are putting you through this additional and unneccesary stress Thanks

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 18:25

I might ring pals. Do you think they could help?

Gp seems to think a gap of up to 3 ,months before starting hrt is standard.
Any thoughts on that ladies?

I was nowhere near menopause before, no symptoms, in fact I had a baby 2 yrs ago.

Surely it's not right to just let me dip then have to top it up again.

Waitingaround · 22/01/2014 19:25

Hi flouncy I also work for the NHS and my role also involves lifting etc I went back to work at 8 weeks but was admin only (did have to do lots of walking and standing though). I started moving beds, equipment etc at 12 weeks and although I'm not without twinges and my tummy still swells I think I'm doing ok. Occupational health will guide you though.
Ps I can walk for miles etc etc, it's the lifting moving beds that's harder..

Waitingaround · 22/01/2014 19:30

ledkr I started on HRT 3 days post surgery the hospital prescribed it and after 4 weeks my GP adjusted the dose till I was happy. Your GP should be able to sort this, I would complain till they do.

gingeme · 22/01/2014 19:33

Does everyone have to have HRT ?

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 19:36

Only if you want to.
I was pre menopausal and so I do want it as it protects me against some of the long term effects of early menopause.

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 19:36

Should I speak to pals?

Waitingaround · 22/01/2014 19:45

I would probably make an appointment with the GP explaining how worried you are etc etc- or hospital again and act upset and scared ;) should do the trick

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 19:52

Thanks waiting I did that in the hospital, consultant said he'd refer me to the hrt clinic but hasn't.
Same with gp who has now but it will still be a while yet.
I've had chemo, tamoxifen and zoladex (puts you into temp meno) when I was 27 to prevent breast cancer recurrence.
I also had a thyroid issue which depleted my bit d and calcium and my nan had early onset osteoporosis.
So you can see why I wanted hrt ASAP.

Waitingaround · 22/01/2014 20:02

I don't see why your GP can not prescribe you some HRT whilst you wait for a clinic appointment. They sound like an arse! Time to get cross I think...

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 20:17

Because I've had breast cancer it needs to be more carefully managed I think, tbh the way he's acted I don't trust him.
I need to see a specialist which is no surprise who his why it should have been sorted before so it could have been consistent I stead of needing referrals which then are not done!

fitflopqueen · 22/01/2014 22:02

We also got a call about 2 mins after leaving today, I forgot my dressing gown.
Came home, had lunch in bed ( mind that will be the only one) husband going to work tomorrow so mother on duty.
Pottered round this evening as it does help with the pain/wind. Feels very hard on the left side.
Have loads of stuff listed to watch.
Tryng tramadol tonight, as that was in take home pack
Ledkr, get some vit D and calcium whilst you are waiting, a daily dose won't do you any harm, there was a thread in style & beauty about the benefits of vit d3 I think from Holland & Barrett esp for your skin.
I would be furious too.

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 22:21

Thanks fitflop
The wind was annoying for about 2-3 days even with peppermint tea.
I did find moving helped yes.
Are you taking codeine because in about day 3 I had the most awful constipation, I was on the loo for ages.
I used dulco ease and prune juice but I wish I'd taken it before it got bad.
Good advice about the bits and calcium I will get tomorrow.
I do take a berocca but won't hurt to have more specific ones.
Hope you have a good nights sleep.

flouncymcflouncerson · 23/01/2014 00:00

waiting thanks that is helpful. There aren't any desk based jobs I could do really but hoping occ health help. Ideally I'll get back to work before the next surgery but as I said before the other HCPS aren't keen.

flouncymcflouncerson · 23/01/2014 00:00

I hadn't even thought of HRT. I'm 30 and didn't expect to be losing my womb so it's never crossed my mind.

Ledkr · 23/01/2014 04:32

If you kept your ovaries you don't need it.

flouncymcflouncerson · 23/01/2014 08:12

I was under the impression that your ovaries only work for a limited period of time after a hysterectomy. After that they shrivel up and stop working so are effectively useless.

Twinkletights · 23/01/2014 09:10

Fitflop I took Tramadol last night too and had a great sleep. I did wake up every time I turned over because my tummy hurt. I still have a lot more pain on my left side, I wonder if it because our cons is right handed?

Flouncy the information that I was given about keeping the ovaries when having hysterectomy is that you tend to go through menopause a couple of years earlier. I am not 40 yet so don't really want to think about my ovaries shrinking up in the near future.

fullasagun · 23/01/2014 09:17

I heard the same Twinkle.... that menopause may be earlier and like you am under 40 and not even thinking about it yet.

Ledkr my understanding is that if your ovaries are removed then you go into a surgical menopause which is harsher than the more natural decline of hormones. I would def push for HRT in your position and I wish you luck .... I think its disgraceful that this wasn't sorted before you left hospital.

flouncymcflouncerson · 23/01/2014 09:27

Sorry reading that back it is awful abrupt! I understand your concerns, I'm not even 30 so a good 25 years before average menopause age which is why I'm concerned about the ovary situation. From seeing scans in my workplace I unfortunately have first hand experience of the effects of ovaries left in situ.

Ledkr · 23/01/2014 09:42

Well I'm. 46 but wasn't even peri so I am concerned.

I'm deformed having a few symptoms now, bit hot at night and wake at 4.30 and find it hard to go back off, I also get headaches.
I'm feeling a bit down because of this today actually but I'm just tired.

Dh only had 3 days off this week and spent one of them at a family funeral in Essex, today is last day but we have to go and get dd2 presents for her birthday on Monday then I have a mega busy weekend with dd1's panto.

My sick not runs out at the end of four weeks, I don't feel ready to go back though, my dr will give me another note but do you think I'm being feeble?

fullasagun · 23/01/2014 09:45

Not feeble at all... don't go back until you're ready... 4 weeks is nothing

Ledkr · 23/01/2014 09:55

I think because it's keyhole you are meant to be all fighting fit but I don't feel it.

fitflopqueen · 23/01/2014 09:57

Tramadol didn't really work, only took one though, had 2 paracetamol at 2am and am much more comfortable, have not needed anything since.
Still lounging in bed and raining here
