MMR causing slight measles, advice please

My dd (14mths) had her MMR 11 days ago, she's had a bit of a fever and now has a rash, small pinks spots on her body and face. Although she's fairly well, a little clingy, her fever has now gone. I've spoken to NHS direct who think its probably a reaction to her MMR, which is what I thought. But they weren't very helpful. I might take her to clinic to see the HV this afternoon.
But does anyone know, are they likely to get itchy, should I get some calamine lotion, how long is it liklely to last, are they likley to get worse?
Does this mean she's also likely to react to the mumps part of the vaccine and get a small dose of mumps 3 weeks after the jab (thats what the leaflet says - although it says thats rare, but says its rare for her to get a rash too).
Is the mumps part bad, 3 weeks will be the day before we fly out to France for a week.
Sorry for all the questions, but I know some of you will have experienced some of these.

LittleB, I can't say about the mumps but I can, hopefully, put your mind about the rest. My d (20m) had her MMR a few weeks ago and also had a delayed reaction which lasted for about 3 days (rash, under the weather, not much scratching and was over by the time I'd realised what it was and had suspicion confirmed by doc). She did not react to the mumps part as far as I'm aware! Hope this helps.

I don't think that's a measles rash. Measles is flat red spots and according to my GP only this morning, appears on the arms before the body (or something, I was just rejoicing that BabyDragon's rash was "one of those viral ones" so wasn't paying attention.

But that's not to say it's not a reaction to the jab, just that it doesn't sound like a measles rash

Better take her to clinic then to make sure. She seems to be ok, but I need to make sure its not contagious as tomorrow she'll be at my FIL while I'm at work and they'll have his partners grandchildren there, the littlest is only 7mths so wouldn't want him to catch anything.
Anyone know about the mumps?

Seen the HV and the rash is definitely caused by the measles part of the mmr. It should clear up soon apparently and doesn't usually get itchy. Apprently the mumps reaction is very rare but has anyone ever come across this and what did you do?

my dd never had any reactions but I have found some info from the 'mmr the facts' website:

After immunisation some children may get a very mild form of measles with a rash (about 1 in 10), a fever (about 1 in 15), loss of appetite and a general feeling of being unwell for 2 or 3 days.

More rarely a child (1 in 50) can develop a mild form of mumps with swelling of the glands in the cheek, neck or under the jaw about 3 weeks after being immunised. This only lasts a day or two.

One to three weeks after the first dose there may be pain, stiffness or swelling in one or more joints because of the rubella part of the vaccine; this usually lasts up to three days. It is rare in young children and seems to occur more often when adult women are given rubella vaccine.

Children who have been immunised cannot infect other children with the viruses contained in the MMR vaccine.

Thanks Seona, thats really useful. Her spots have almost gone now. Sounds like the mumps part isn't too bad even if she does get it. I'll just make sure we've got some calpol with us.

ds got the mini mumps after the MMR and was generally under the weather, clingy - a bit like having a heavy cold (he would drop off to sleep all the time!). The glands in his neck were huge. He was better fairly quickly but it took a long time for the glands to go down.

dd got the measles reaction but other than the rash and slight fever, didn't really appear to be that poorly.

I don't remember either of them acting poorly for longer than a couple of days. Hope she's better soon.
