Hi all,

I last year was given a diagnosis of hashimoto thyroiditis which at the time was just passed from the endo to the gp with the instructions to medicate when my tsh level reached 10.

since I have a variety of symptoms which I have written threads about if anyone remembers.

I recently saw a rheumatologist with regards to pain in all joints again to no avail. I came away with a diagnosis of raynauds and arthropathy due to thyroid.

so my question is the level of my tsh plus my symptoms is it worth asking to see the endocrinologist again in reference to starting treatment earlier. I feel awful all the time and if it wasn't for dh and the dc im not sure I'd be able to keep more upbeat. also my iron levels keep falling get treated with oral replacement stabilise for a while then drop again. is this a common thing with thyroids?.

thank you to anyone who is able to answer my questions.

hash.

yes you need treatment
just go see the gp
explain how you feel
take a copy of 'understanding thyroid disorders' in with you and highlight the section on treating when tsh is below 10
also get another test done and ask for ferritin b12 and vit d to be tested

any chance you could be celiac as well?

if gp refuses go see another one

yes btw my iron is like that. I supplement daily now. also my vit d does that and I have to supplement year round

Thank you merci I will get an appointment with the gp and a copy of understanding thyroid disorders. is that one of the books they sell in chemists usually on a big range of illness and disorders?

funnily enough I came across something on celiac disease and did mention it to the gp. she agreed some symptoms could be that of celiac. how would I go about being tested for it?. my bowels are never consistent anyway Blush

i have been tested and think it was a blood test , also hashi's , but I have read it can be negative but you could be gluten sensitive try cutting gluten out to see if it makes a difference it has to me I was very strict for a while and it really helped "IBS" but have slowly allowed some back now and then with no effects so think I must be sensitive rather than coeliac, I think its common in thyroid disorders, also I too keep getting anaemia also common in thyroid (it affects so much ) and low in Vit D3 so taking them as well , good luck with endo you will need to really push but don't give up its a, insert sweary word here , terrible condition, getting really fed up with it at the moment.

yes hashtag it is one of those books in boots. it is written by a specialist in thyroid disorders and part of the bma series

a lot of endos are really diabetes specialists. was yours a thyroid or diabetes specialist?

hashtagwhatever · 10/12/2013 20:27

excellent I will go and get the book tomorrow.

I think the endo specialising in diabetes rather than thyroids at the hospital I attended.
