Hi,

My one of my DTDs seems to complain that her tummy hurts most days. As far as we can establish it is not localised at all & at first thought it was moaning out of 'habit' IYSWIM. She is not constipated or have diahrrea (I can not spell that word no matter how hard I try!). She has started to hold her tummy as she complains though so am starting to wonder if it is real. Feel that I should take her to docs but don't really know what to say or if there is anything they can do.

Has she been on antibiotics lately? If so and she has tummy ache give her some probiotics

Could it be something to do with problems at school or home? It may be advisable to get the GP to check her over anyway

we have had this with dd in the last term of school. I spent ages worrying it was appendicitis (!) but then two things struck me - first of all, she was VERY tired and she had also had a string of mild illnesses (like colds, sore ears) and second, I wondered if it was out of habit because if I distracted her or did something fun, she often didn't mention the pain. Had a chat to a GP friend (who didn't examine her, this was over a coffee!) who said that children often get referred pain in their tummies and also when they get things like sore throats, they have glands in their tummies that get swollen aswell e.g. she often sees toddlers with tonsilitis who appear to have stomach pain rather than throat pain but once a proper examination is done, it's clear that it's the throat that is the problem.

Sorry, that's a bit of an essay! I would see how she goes. Are any of her other glands up (like in her neck)? I also wouldn't rule out exhaustion at the moment aswell. It's prob better to get her checked over just in case.

No has been otherwise very well recently.

It is not to avoid school either as she loves school & has broken up now anyway.

Although she holds her tummy as she complains she doesn't appear to be in particularly severe pain.

Could exhaustion really cause pain? SHe was getting a bit tired towards the end of the school term

I don't know but it seems to always happen with dd when she starts getting very tired. We almost always get this at the end of each term!

worth going to the doc though

Have just tried to get appt, but nothing for today. Going away 'til Sat, so it is going to have to wait 'til Monday.

I am not over concerned though as it has been going on for a couple of weeks...
