heavy lifting after gallbladder removal

Hello, I had my gallbladder removed last Tuesday. I was told no heavy lifting for a few weeks.

I have been terribly constipated since then and had really severe bowel cramps all morning - the desperate urge to "go", but nothing would happen. My lower bowel was so painful i was almost blacking out. So I ended up straining VERY much, just to empty it out. It worked. However I'm now thinking that straining and heavy lifting are possibly causing the same problems?? Is the heavy lifting advice to prevent a hernia or to stop the clips or wounds opening? If I had done damage, would it be immediately obvious?

I've got myself worried now.

Does anyone have any info? X

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I would call your gp just to be on the safe side especially if you are experiencing any discomfort. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thank u. I feel fine so I'm assuming all is ok. It's my bowel that's struggling to cope with it all. Chronic constipation, despite being (sort of) careful with what I'meating . Going to get lactulose and/or prune juice to see if that starts regulating everything.

Hi I am having constipation problems since taking a lot of codeine. Are you taking that? I've tried prune juice but I think you need something a bit stronger. Some laxatives are not suitable for use with codeine so make sure you get the right one. This problem really does make everything worse!

Hi there, no I haven't been taking any codeine. I bought syrup of figs to try. If it doesnt work then I'll try lactulose. I used glycerol suppositories two days in a row - which worked wonders BUT I went straight back to being constipated. So I think I therefore need a softener that I may hv to take every day till things are more back to normal, as I don't want to use suppositories every day!

No way would you want those every day lol! I think the softener is the way to go if the natural one works ok that would be healthier of course.
