i had PROM and was told to watch out for GBS symproms. i was just looking at the GBSS website and it has two sections early onset and late onset. does anyone know when these different "onsets" are?

I just wanted to add that although Strep B infection is very serious for babies, not to panic if you are diagnosed with it before the birth (for anyone who's reading this while pregnant!).
It's quite common for the mother to be carrying it (most people are unaware they have it) and very few babies get complications (although the complications can be very bad).

Some hospitals do offer a test (I think at 34 weeks) so it's worth asking. But chase the result up too as my hospital didn't tell me I was positive & the midwife didn't have time to look at my notes until after I'd delivered!

Rosieglow - but the Hospitals don't tell you that the test they offer you is only 50% accurate and produce a false negative! As a result of my suggestion, the UK now has the first reliable method of GBS testing (albeit privately) which is 99% accurate as it uses the ECM method. Details are available on the GBS website and I'm having mine done this weekend.

when I went into labour with my second baby, I had to go in as soon as I went into labour to have IV antibiotics, so that the baby absorbed them before being born. To my knowledge, I have not had a positive swab to suggest that I carry Strep B, but I understand it can be pos one day and neg the next. I presume if a woman has any history of Strep B at any time, then they are routinely advised to have the precautionary antibiotics. I hope this info is correct, and hope it helps.
