Diabetes

Dh had an eye test today as his eye sight is getting worse. The optician apparently was very thorough & suggested dh has diabetes.
My mum has it but I don't feel I want to ask too much.
Dh is phobic about hospitals,Gps etc. Getting him to the optician is hard enough. I have a feeling he will simply ignore it. He went to get a few bits of shopping & let's just say it was full of high fat, high sugar. We are both overweight,me more than him. It gave me a bit of a jolt.
What would the treatment be if I get him to a GP,if it proves he is diabetic.

You can get a diabetes test at some pharmacies if he hates dr this might be easier. It is very important to get something done about this asap. If you catch it early it can be a much better outcome for treatment.

Low-carb diet (all carbs not just sugar), more exercise, fingerprick bloodtests at home a couple of times a day. Possibly tablets.
Tell him he'll spend a lot less time in hospitals if he sorts this now than if he ignores it! (and get yourself checked out too, for company)

Treatment is usually diet-based, counting carbohydrates, if caught early enough. Extra foot care and ideally some blood sugar monitoring (most diabetics are iffy about doing it all, anyway).

Diabetes is deadly, and rather nasty. I think I would work on worse case scenarios. Going to hospital for diabetes education & checks is better than a much shortened life (which isn't fair on his family, either).
