Back pain from car seat ....

I'd put this in chat but realised better in health....
...............

To be so thick I can't work out what to do with new car seat without knackering my back

New work car (v excited - never had a new car before.)
Last car was a clapped out Cleo. Seats like two bits of cardboard stapled together. Never had as much as a twinge in back.

New car a fiesta - so we're not talking top of the range here, but still I'm excited. Drivers seat has loads of buttons to fiddle with - not just distance from pedals and back angle - but lumbar support and seat height/tilt.

So I merrily expected that to be a good thing as opposed to the cardboard. BUT after just two days driving I am in agony. Never had back pain like it. (never really had any back pain to be honest)

I've read the instruction manual and watched a couple of DVDs on YouTube about best position for car seats but still none the wiser (before this I've always just jumped in and out of various hire cars without giving the seats a second thought. )

Please can anyone give any tips for sorting it out. I drive hundreds of miles every week for work.

Thanks

I would tell your work right away and get them to note it down in the accident records. That way they are liable for any car related problems. They may then be willing to get someone in to help you adjust the seat. For example if the lumber support is too high or low it would actually be pushing your spine out of alignment. If not take the car to a ford dealer and ask them.

Where is pain?

kizzie · 09/12/2013 12:44

Sorry! Ive only just realised that I had replies.
Pain is mid to lower back.

Thats a good idea reviving. Because Ive never had any extra lumbar support on seats I assumed it was a good thing - but maybe its sending everything out of kilter?

Lumbar support is usually is a good thing in cars, I've got it in mine, but it can take a while to set it up correctly.

However, DH has had a Fiesta twice hired for him twice now, once before a 16 hour flight. He was in agony both times when he got out. His back took a while to settle down last time, probably not helped by the flight. Maybe Fiesta's take a while to soften or something.

hmm thats interesting invisible - Ive driven so many different hire cars etc and never had an issue. its only with this fiesta (which is a very nice car other than this). Wonder if it will 'soften' as you say
