Going through awful stressy time - how not to fall to bits?

Double horrible stressy times, actually!

When I get stressed I can't eat or sleep (despite the fact that I just want to curl up in a little ball and sleep).

I need to be able to face the world/work/family/the bs and not look bloody awful/be muddle headed.

I was thinking of herbal supplements to keep my vit/min levels up maybe, or something to calm me down? Or any foods I need to avoid?

Try to eat a little and often. I'm the same and it's bloody hard. Soup, yogurts, bananas, toast. Make a shepherds pie and freeze it in portions (or buy M&S ready meals ones) so you have something nutritious that is easy to swallow. Feeling weak through hunger makes things so much harder.

Remember this will pass. XX

Eat well, learn to meditate. You can get free 10 days of headspace app that will teach you. Use sleep hypnosis CDs with sound asleep pillow or under pillow speaker. Exercise gently, a walk or a swim can really help. Whatever little you do will give yo more resilience to cope. Good luck

You know that expression 'god never gives you more than you can handle'? Well he bloody well can you know!

I am a rubbish hypnosis subject (I trained as a therapist - hahahahah, oh the irony!) Therapists are the very bad at therapy!

VitB is good for the nerves.
Keep off sugar and alcohol, which is, I realise, easier said than done.

Perhaps always have meal replacement drinks in the cupboard, and if you can't eat, have one or two of these, with a straw if necessary. I also lose the ability to eat when stressed, and these have been my saviour at times. It can help break the cycle of "feel shit> can't eat > feel shitter", etc.

Really sorry to hear things are so tough. Hang on in there.

nicename · 06/12/2013 10:19

The good news is that I've lost 8 kilos (ha ha).

I've got the Bach (ordinary and night) and also some daytime kalms (never tried these but hey ho...).

Drink lots of water & avoid alcohol
It's the only way to avoid all the bugs & colds going round at the moment in my experience

You can buy nourishment cans in some tescos and some corner shops. It's like a milkshake with loads of iron and vits in. Fills you up to.

I can't stress how much mindfulness meditation has helped me. It's free, very, very, very simple and a proven way of helping you cope with stress, chronic pain and all sorts of other things... Free guided meditations linked here from Mark Williams book so you can try one right now. He runs the Oxford Centre for Mindfulness at Oxford Uni.

I went to the doctors and got a 2 week course of temazipam for as and when. Just to take on the nights were sleep is impossible. Meal replacements are a good idea for when you can't eat. Hot water with a lemon squeezed into it on a morning to give your liver a boost. Plenty of fluids so your body has everything it needs to deal with the stress hormone.

Make sure you take time to spend on yourself.. even if it's just a couple of hours.

I would definitely recommend asking the doc for some chemical help though.. I had too when I started lactating because I was so stressed out. Just knowing they're there helps.

nicename · 06/12/2013 15:35

Well I had lunch (baked beans prob not the best idea) and took a kalms. Felt worse!

I'm trying the Bach now - drops. I have some of the sweets but find these too too sweet.

Just dragging myself along now. Feeling very low and exhausted. Bah!

Have you tried having a nap in the day? Can help a lot.who can you fall apart with? A friend on the phone or over coffee? You cannot be superwoman. Be kind to yourself.

nicename · 07/12/2013 15:08

I work most days so no naps for me! Woke up at 2am... The upside is that I am fully versed in UK and world events before breakfast time.
