Knee Arthroscopy recovery time

Have finally got my surgery in early Jan.
Hubby works away but will have time off to take me in for day surgery.
He is hoping to be able to leave me to fend for myself the following day.Just wondered what experience anyone has of recovery issues.

I needed my crutches for two weeks but I lived on my own and had really steep stairs. I managed on my own from the afternoon of the op fine. Had to go up and down the stairs on my bum for two weeks!

DH had this surgery in October. He was walking, a little, the next day and able to do most things within 3-4 days. However, a colleague at work had the same surgery and, because they found lots of things wrong when they go in there and the procedure was much more invasive - he was off sick for several weeks.

I guess it just depends. So you need a plan B!

Definitely have a plan B. I had mine earlier this year and it was more like weeks than days before I felt able to normal day to day things. Everyone is different so you may have a quicker recovery but best to plan for a longer recovery just in case.

It really depends on what they are doing in there. Arthroscopy just means keyhole knee surgery, the variation in what they do once they are in can be massive.

I had a double arthroscopy last year so both knees done on the same day, and lateral release of the kneecaps so big 4 inch cuts of tissue inside. I was on crutches and not driving for 8 weeks, had to sleep downstairs for 4-5 nights as couldn't do the stairs. After that it was a once a day trip up the stairs. Have you got a downstairs toilet?

The problem with crutches also is that you can't carry drinks or food so you do need someone to wait on you for a little while. A rucksack is very helpful!
