Hypothyroidism question

podkin · 17/07/2006 11:56

I am currently on a v low dose of thyroxine but have started to feel a bit shitty again over the last couple of weeks. Are general aches and pains considered a symptom of hypothyroidism because I seem to be getting these recently ? Have suffered from feeling low, tiredness, brain fog etc before so I do know the signs, but not aches and pains. Anyone in a similiar situation ?

is anyone elses skin on their hands like chicken skin?(probably better described as the thin skin old people have)

suzywong · 18/07/2006 15:54

tingly fingers yes yes yes
I thought I was getting MS

I neither gained or lost weight

And watch out for your hair, if your brush is like, a bader when you've brushed your hair that can be a sign. Doesn't do anything to get rid of a Mo though Pruni, sorry

my scaly face was just for month when my body was crying out to be helped, it was when ds2 was 9 months old and I was near collapse and didnt know it, it was an extreme reaction.

My hair has been coming out but I just assumed it was post-baby.

I misscarried between my monsters as I was on to low a dose of thyroxine. GP said I was talking nonsense so why did the hospital treble my dose immediatly after my m/c without consulting him?

glassofwine · 18/07/2006 17:25

Hello thyroid ladies, I wondered how often you have blood tests, my last one was ok, no change to dose so I didn't even get a phone call from gp - I had to ask and was just told no change. So when should I be tested again?

No scaly face

But: get cold easily and have extremely heavy periods

Note re testing frequency

Treatment with levothyroxine is usually lifelong, but because the dosage you need may change, your doctor is likely to check your TSH level every year or so.

To determine the right dosage of levothyroxine initially, your doctor generally checks your level of TSH after two to three months. Excessive amounts of the hormone can cause side effects, such as increased appetite, insomnia, heart palpitations and shakiness.

HTH

Thanks for that. I've been taking it for about 18 months, so only recently got to the point where GP happy with my levels - still waiting for the weight loss
