And I'm still thirsty. Is this worrying?

Have you been tested for diabetes?

JollySeriousGiant · 05/12/2013 16:13

Yes it is worrying, it's not normal to feel so thirsty, I'd also stop drinking as you're in danger of overdosing on water and see your gp asap!

JollySeriousGiant · 05/12/2013 16:14

Sorry, posted too soon. I've always had a couple of litres of water a day but this is new in last couple of weeks.

Shall make an appointment. I am BF a 15week old so my intake should be up but not like this. Decided to actually count today so I know how much I've had.

Too much water will do something to the electrolytes in your body and can make you very poorly. I suggest stop drinking water NOW and seek medical attention.

sweetheart · 05/12/2013 16:18

That is not normal at all and is actually quite dangerous - do you know that it is entirely possible to drown yourself from drinking too much water? I'd get to a gp if I were you.

JollySeriousGiant · 05/12/2013 16:28

I have taken your advice and asked the on call doctor to call me.

Are you weeing lots more too? Have you lost weight over the last few weeks? I guess it's hard to tell if you're abnormally tired, with a 15-wk old! But tired, thin, thirsty and needing the toilet a lot are the main symptoms of Type 1 diabetes, which can start very suddenly at any age and can be fatal in days. If it might be that, get yourself to a doctor today.
Or, you might be brewing a cold Smile

Bluecarrot · 05/12/2013 16:30

If you can't see one for a while, get some dioralyte. It will rebalance electrolytes etc and helps with dehydration.

Are you eating any different? Exercising a lot?

JollySeriousGiant · 05/12/2013 16:32

Not eating any differently. Not exercising much either. Tired though as you'd expect with a wee one and losung weight as you'd expect post pregnancy.

It might be diabetes, it might also be this weird thing I got once for a couple of weeks where for some unknown reason the (hypothalamus I think) bit that tells you are thirsty goes haywire and tells you constantly you are.

The doctor told me to sip water, and not drink too much ( which can be dangerous ) and it would go, which it did. Bu t the more you drink the more it thinks it was right in saying you were thirsty.

But go to gp as may be something else.

Bramblesinforrin · 05/12/2013 16:47

Don't let them make you wait too long - you do need to get this checked asap. Take a urine sample with you, but they really should check with a fingerprick or blood sample.

Hopefully it's just a cold and BF combo, but if it is diabetes then things can get difficult quickly - do not hesitate to seek more urgent medical help if you feel unwell.

All the best.

JollySeriousGiant · 05/12/2013 16:50

Thank you everyone. I shall let you know.
