Does anyone have Dupuytren’s?

Just wondered if anyone else has Dupuytrenâ??s?

I have a nodule in the palm of my hand, about 2cms down from the base of my ring finger.

At the moment I don't have the contracting of the tendon, but the Gp said that eventually it will happen.

It's suddenly very painful - haven't done anything to cause it, but it's swollen on extremely tender, I can't hold the steering wheel at the moment.

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience if this or any treatment for the nodules?

Also, should I be concerned with the sudden pain?

My hubby had surgery for this a couple of years ago now.
His finger was very bent and he had huge swelling from the module.
Two years on and no recurrence so would highly recommend surgery asap.

Thanks MrsBlakey, glad your dh is ok now.

My finger is not yet bent and the go said that surgery isn't an option until it does bend, which seems strange to me.

The nodule is so sore as are my ring and little fingers Hmm

Will go back and ask about a referral next week.

My dad had the needle treatment for his contracture. It was really quick and worked pretty well. I don't remember him mentioning the sore nodules though, sorry.

DH had an operation on one hand (little finger) this year. He has nodules on his other hand, but they are not affecting anything at the moment.
Hope it isn't affecting your bagpipe playing!

The very, very lovely hand surgeon who did my wrist fusion does injections with Xiapex for Dupreytens which dissolves the stuff causing the contracture with apparently excellent results.
Def get a referral to a hand surgeon

I have had this for the last 20 years but I have the nodules on the soles of my feet. On my hands I have what look like ganglions on the joints - apparently it is unusual to have such 'classic' symptoms. Anyway the nodules hurt occassionally but have not got any worse - toes do not contract as you stretch them out each day when you walk.
The advice I got at the time was to press my palms together each day to stretch out the hand tendons in the same way - suffice to say I did for a while...
I agree with the advice of others to get a referal. I was told that the op (would have been on my feet) was complicated and painful so not to have it done unless i couldn't bear the pain.
I know my fingers will contract eventually as it is genetic and my father and uncle both had the same problem.

Thanks for the replies - and the link Lily! Grin

It seems to be getting worse and as I said I've had it for a few years, it was a bit tender at first then was painless unless I knocked it.

My fingers are swollen and I can't bend any of my fingers back. The ring and little fingers are the worst and are getting shiny with the swelling Shock

I'll see how it is over the weekend. If it gets worse, would I be making a fuss and look like a twat if I called OOH?
