God, she's thin! Ribs showing, arms like matcsticks. I'm so stressed I could scream. Wish I could but too tired. has anyone heard of/have experience with atypical pneumonia?

Nope, can't say I ever have. My DD3 has had phuemonia 3 times now, and that is new to me. She has had bronchial pnuemonia tho, so am guessing it is just a different form.

Hugs tho, as I know how horrid it is for them, and us seeing them go thro it.

How old is she??

she's just had her 6th birthday. I'm so worried about her. It was almost better when she was in hospital because at least they knew what to do for her!

My eldest lad had this about five years ago when he was 6ish, although it doesn't sound as though his bout was as severe as your DDs.

He was poorly obviously, but he recovered ok and had no lasting effects.

Do hope she and you are feeling better soon.

I know that feeling well. You get the safety net of the nurses cushioning you don't you??!! (almost like coming out with a new baby actually, leaving hospital with a poorly child. Or am I the only one to feel like that....?)

Just remember tho.....they really wouldn't have let her home if they weren't sure she was well enough. They don't with children. And they also tend to see the ones that they know will be cared for properly.

Oh sansoucci - your poor dd and poor you. Ds1 has had pneumonia 3 times now but I've not heard of atypical pneumonia. He looked absolutely dreadful the first time as it was so long before he got proper treatment. He has made a full recovery though on all occasions although it was very worrying at the time. Poor you too. I assume they've let her out on antibiotics and have arranged a follow-up appointment to check her progression and recovery.

i had pnuemonia, not the same, but from my own experience can say, it will take several weeks for your dd to recover and she will tire easily, if she doesnt want to eat, dont worry, just make sure she gets plenty of fluids into her, if she seems to worsen, once home, take her straight back to hospital.
it was bad enough having it myself but cant imagine how worrying it must be for your child to be ill with it.
i hope shes soon on the road to recovery.

I've checked the Net &, as I expected, the findings are scary. It is true that they wouldn't have let her out unless they were sure all is well. I feel exactly like I did when I came home with her! She's on ventolin & axotide along with antibiotics. poor little sprout! she's been so brave. I couldn't stay with her all night; there wasn't enough room. She was okay with that. Having been through this with ds last winter (he had an infection in his spine), I'm feeling like we've all had more than our share of hospitals, illness, worry, etc. but thank God they're on the mend! very fortunate there.
