Why am I so tired all the time

The past couple of weeks I've been exhausted, going to bed at 7.30 just after I've put dd to bed. I've been getting loads of headaches, have no energy or motivation to do anything. Also the last couple of days my neck hurts as think my glands are swollen and it hurts to swallow. Am I fighting off a cold (not snotty though!) or just run down?

I'm lying in bed already and just so crap I want to cry.

Time for a blood test

bigbrick · 30/11/2013 18:14

to check general health and also for thyroid and vitamin levels

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 30/11/2013 18:15

It just sounds like you're run down to me like your body is trying to fight the infection.

Rest up (as much as possible!) and hope you feel better soon.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 30/11/2013 18:16

If it lasts longer than 2-3 weeks then I'd definitely say blood tests, but the time frame and the extra symptoms sound viral to me so I'd wait and see.

Messupmum · 30/11/2013 18:23

It's the tiredness I find hard to cope with, I have diagnosed depression so it could be that, but it just feels different recently. I don't even have the energy to go downstairs and have a glass of wine! The headaches are recurring and linger for days, and the painful neck/throat isn't like a sore throat, feels more tender and swollen. It's making my ears hurt too.

Sorry for sounding pathetic but I'm on my own so have no one to moan to or get sympathy from! I feel so tearful and frustrated. I do feel low at the moment, but want to do things like sort out Xmas presents, but just can't do it. My body won't let me. I'm probably fighting off a cold and being pathetic.

When you go for your tests, make sure they screen you for thyroid problems!

Messupmum · 02/12/2013 08:14

I still feel the same and getting heart palpatations too. Maybe it's all in my head! Although the swollen neck glands are definitely painful. I think I was tested a couple of years ago for thyroid problems but it was all ok, so I've got a feeling they wouldn't find anything if I did go to the GP. Think I'll leave it another week.

After some putting off of going to a GP, someone in my family discovered they had a serious but easily treatable illness. They'd put up with horrible symptoms for weeks because "it'll probably pass." Get to your doctor!

harryhausen · 02/12/2013 08:22

This was a red herring but I had this when I wasps with my second dc. I was soooo exhausted well into my 7th month that I went to the GP. He laughed me out of the surgery. I was constantly teary, shattered and just weary with it all.

Dc ended up being induced early as I was so ill. They told me I had alsorts of pg related illnesses.

After dc was born I was still exhausted. I was told it was natural with a young baby etc. I insisted on a blood test. I had dozens. After what felt like an age a different GP found that HAD had glandular fever during pregnancy, which was so bad it had affected my liver function and my spleen.

Not wanting to tell you a horror story (this was 6 years ago and I'm fine now!) - just don't be fooled into thinking it's all normal. It may well be just natural tiredness but go and check it out xxx

harryhausen · 02/12/2013 08:22

*was pg not wasps(?)

HeadlessHeadmistress · 02/12/2013 08:22

I felt exactly the same when I had glandular fever.

Messupmum · 02/12/2013 13:14

I feel a bit stupid going to the GP saying my glands are up Blush. Went to town this morning, lasted an hour, now home and had to lie down in bed. What if it's just me being lazy, they might tell me I'm being pathetic and to get out more. I used to work 55 hours a week, now I struggle with 8hours.

Go anyway! That's what they are there for. You are suffering. I don't think it sounds like laziness. It sounds like you are well and truly worn out or fighting an infection. You need medical attention. Make an appointment, now!

Tillyboo · 02/12/2013 17:19

Have you any aches & pains anywhere else ?

Could be thyroid or you might want to investigate the possiblity of Fibromyalgia. I have just been diagnosed and when you said tiredness & depression & painful neck, these are all signs & symptoms. How is your sleep quality ?
Might be worth looking into. I need to do some more research but I do know a lot of Fibro symptoms can be attributed to lots of conditions. It's taken several years & lots of tests & scans to get my conclusion.
Good luck with a diagnosis. Could be iron or Vid D deficient, but you need to get sorted.

Messupmum · 02/12/2013 17:50

The other symtoms are the headaches, but the painful neck has only been for a week (?), I do get this overwhelming tiredness come over me and all I want to do is curl up in bed. But because I've been treated for depression for years I just accociate it with that.

I haven't got a high temp, felt dizzy at times. I'll phone the doctors in the morning but I'm prepared to be told I'm probably fighting off a cold Blush
