FFS. I'm in my thirties. I've just finished a nasty cold, the worst bit of which was finding out that during bouts of coughing I leaked a bit of wee.

So do I carry on as normal now my cough has gone or do I go to the GP? I have NEVER been able to do those bloody pelvic floor exercises properly. Am I going to be living in fear of sneezing in public? Wink

If I go to the GP what will they do/want to know?

I know they've heard it a million times before but it is still Blush Blush Blush

I'm off to bed now but will read any replies in the morning. Thanks.

It seems it's the way things go for lost ladies who have had kids, especially natural births Hmm I am the same. You should see a physio specialised in women's health. That's what I did after DD's birth and she made sure I was doing the exercises properly by ultrasound and manually Shock
There is also a DVD I recommend a lot called Hab-it by a physio who had a bad prolapse. You'd have to be able to do pelvic floor stuff though. Physio is the way to go, they will help sort it out or at least make it better!

Both my dc were c-section so buggered if I know why this has happened.
How did you find the physio? Was it through your GP?

I'm just trying not to be horrified at the 'manually' part of your post. I know I've had babies blah blah but really I thought the days of having my fanjo manhandled by healthcare professionals (apart from smears and my practice nurse has those down to a fine art) was over years ago (youngest dc is 9yrs old) Sad

Pelvic floor stressed by pregnancy itself not just delivery so do all those pelvic floor exercises you got and it should be fine again!

You still have to do them occasionally.

Good luck!

dozeydoris · 27/11/2013 07:26

Do you sit a lot during the day, I started getting leaky when I had a desk job for the first time, put it down to sitting too much. But it fixed once I was less sedentary - have had 3 normal deliveries by the way.

Kveta · 27/11/2013 07:28

I have had two forceps deliveries, and my gp reckons my pelvic floor is just scuppered generally by them. Won't refer me to physio though, as she checked manually herself that I am doing the correct exercises, and apparently I am.

I wear a lot of pads when I have a cold now :(

steeking · 27/11/2013 07:33

hab-it is good but ask your gp to refer you for women's health physio. I thought i was doing pelvic floor exercises correctly but i wasn't even close.
lol I remember her giving me the list of exercises and me asking if they should be done every day , to be told no it was 6 times daily .
She was lovely though and it was well worth it.

steeking · 27/11/2013 07:36

Kveta that's outrageous . insist on a referral. the physio exercises are really specific not just a few clenches .

Kveta · 27/11/2013 07:38

I should add, I am fat too - size 16-18- and gp said she might refer me if I lose weight! So that is my job for the foreseeable future, then hope I can get a referral, as the pelvic floor thing is so humiliating!

yetanotherworry · 27/11/2013 07:44

Kveta, many PTCs let you self refer for women's health problems. I would try and find out where your local women's health centre is and see if you can refer yourself. Alternatively go back to the GP and tell them you can't lose weight because when you exercise you are losing urine. If you find a pilates class this may help as it strengthens your core muscles but also works on pelvic floor muscles.

Thisisnotworking · 27/11/2013 08:06

Crossing I'm in oz and here you get referred to the physio department if a public hospital if you have a traumatic (4th deg tear) birth.
If you call a centre they will prob tell you of you need a referral?
Yes the 'manual' part is not pleasant, but neither is the leaking and/or the pain I had. I just got on with it, plus in ime women's physios seem to be made for the job, very sensitive and understanding but still matter of fact. It will really help you to get an idea what exactly is going in down there. Was kind of a shock to me to realise, yes I must do my exercises or I will have to buy tenas Shock damn if I do, I stick to normal pads if I have a cold just in case but I swear, with the correct exercises it will get better, without them it will get worse!!! So bite the bullet and make an appointment.
I treated myself to a large glass of red after my first visit...

steeking · 27/11/2013 08:37

Kveta try to see a different gp at your practice . I'm the same size as you and my wt was never discussed . your gp soundslike a nightmare .
