have just googled and its said this can be the normal reaction....

"in the six weeks after MMR your child may, very rarely, get a rash of small bruise-like spots which may be caused by the measles or rubella parts of the immunisation. This usually gets better on its own...."

did anyone else experience this? Just looking for some reasurrance really as they don't dissapear when pressed

Hi daddy28 DD1 had meningitis septecimia (its the septecimia that causes the rash) how well is your DC are there any other symtoms, the rash DD1 had was purple and started as pin pricks

daddy28 · 13/07/2006 21:28

no other symptoms at all (very slightly raised temp) but its 7 days after her MMR so we has put it down to that.

How rashy was it Xena? DD has one pin prick on her lower neck, 2 on her belly and one on the her top of thigh ish region .... its not a rash as such, just individual spots

Daddy28 whats happened?

daddy28 · 14/07/2006 12:02

took her to a&e last night, kept checking her and she was getting more on her legs, the doc there said it looks like some form of an allergy/excema thats causing the small pin prick bruise like spots under the skin, and asked whether we have any allergies or excema in the family (which i dont think we do) DD is fine in herself fortunatley so we are just keeping a close eye on her at the moment.....big sigh of relief!!

Was worried for your DD, the pin pricks our dd had started as pp but then spread out almost like when you blot an ink pen IYSWIM untill they were all over her. (thankfully the hospital had her on IV antibiotics before the ras was properly out.) Meningitis is a very scary thing when from nothing to as bad as it got in 12hrs. Fantastic doctors work very quickly.

thanks xena that description of how the rash progresses was a simialr explanation of what the doc said to watch out for (even though he was certain it wasnt that luckily) cetainly made alarm bells ring when the few spots didnt dissapear under pressure though, every parents worse nightmare i guess and DW and I were too scared to go to bed and leave her sleeping knowing that if it was the worse scenario then it would progress over night without us knowing.....pleased we got it checked
