Sore itchy nipple

Hi all,

I'm new to this so please forgive me. For the past week or so I have noticed that my right nipple has become sore and very very itchy. I have gone back to using my usual shower gel as I first thought this was the cause however, the itchy has not stopped despite applying E45 itch relief cream in the desperate attempt to stop the itching.

I'm not pregnant as I've not long finished my period, but my nipple feels sore but there is No obvious irritation, I.e. a rash or cracking round the nipple. It now feels like my nipple has been scratched (only way to describe the sensation) and it's sore because of a deep scratch but the nipple has No trauma or scratches.

Does anyone know what's doing this it's driving me mad!

Grateful for any feedback
Kel :(

No magic answers I'm afraid but I have experienced this too and you have my sympathies! It's enough to drive you crackers - and not the easiest part of the body to scratch discreetly!! I have had it to varying degrees and on and off for about 2 years - at one point it was really bad and the nipple actually cracked around the base and became very sore and weepy (nice). Using my sons eczema cream cleared it up eventually though. Most of the time I just get a mild itch for a day or so and I've linked it to my cycle as it seems to happen around time of ovulation. Hope yours eases soon!

You need to use a non-bio washing product to wash your bras (advise from GP when suffering with same condition). Could be you need a little canesten on your nipple, it worked with mine.

Go to GP just to put your mind at rest. Does the itchy one look any different or any puckering compared to the left?

I had something like this in the lead up to my period, for about 6 months following a mamogram (it was very hurty for a week after it was done, so probably quite a bit of bruising). It was my nipple and also a patch of skin at the top.

After I noticed it was cyclical, I thought about seeing the doctor -bit difficult with 3 wk waits for appointments though.
I googled it and it came up with cancer (as it always does, but my mamogram result was fine) and somewhere in small writing I found 'mastitis'. I had not had this since breast feeding and didn't realise you could get it at other times. I expect it was the bruising, combined with hormone effects

I got out my favourite, most comfortable, all over supportive, no pressure anywhere Warner's bra (a company now sadly no longer trading :( ) and it vanished within a day or two and never came back. Appointment cancelled.

Might work for you too, but make the appointment too if you are at all worried.
