Sorry for the slightly unpalatable topic but, DH has had a sore and itchy bottom for a few weeks now. Hemorrhoid cream wasn't doing much so he went to the GP who gave him prescription cream and ordered a blood test. It's still not quite right and he has just received a rather stark letter saying due to the results of his recent blood tests they would like him to book another blood test. We are both a bit freaked out. He has no other symptoms but I guess your mind always goes to the worst. Surely they must know that a letter like that is going to have this effect.

Do you know what the blood test was for? Does it say how soon he needs the blood test? I would think if it was something very serious they would ask him in straight away rather than just a repeat blood test, which is more common following a borderline result.

I'm not medically trained though Smile

I don't know but googling came up with it might have been to check if he had anaemia. I do think it would be a weird way to deal with bad news but it's still a worry. Thanks for the reply though.

Worrying results have to be followed up with a gp visit within two weeks. The results could have been unusable or, as I said, borderline so they just need to re check. If he gives them a ring tomorrow they should be able to let him know what he was tested for and what the result was. Sorry I can't be of more help!

No - it's a help to have a plausible explanation rather than that they have some terrible results from the first one. I know that's probably the case but it's hard to think like that. He's going to phone tomorrow and I already said he should ask to speak to the GP but that's a whole 14 hours away! Thanks again.

So DH phoned today and they told him that his bilirubin levels were raised so they were going to do some liver function tests. They said it wasn't urgent and he is booked for another blood test in a couple of weeks. DH said he googled this and it didn't seem too scary - things like gall stones. I googled it and the website I found said it could be an indicator of pancreatic cancer which is pretty scary. I am assuming if there was a possibility he had this they would have a bit more urgency. I don't think I will tell him what I found as I don't want him to be worrying. Pretty sure it must be ok if they are not rushing things. Eurgh.

Yes I would assume if they were worried it would be a much more urgent appointment. No one likes waiting though especially when you're not 100% sure waft they're looking for Sad

Yes - will be nice when it's all over.
