Anyone know anything about carpel tunnel syndrome?

So lots of pins and needles which mainly occur at night or if I am doing a fixed action with my hands (both) like gripping a steering wheel seems to have got less currently.

the question is the night time ones could be painful enough to wake me up, then after a while I realised if I dangle my hand down over the side of the bed they go away quite quickly, so is that typical?
the going away when the hand is dangled down?

thanks

Yes. Typically it is pins & needles/numbness affecting the thumb, first, second and half of the fourth fingers. People also complain of pain, a feeling of tightness (like a band around the arm) or sensation of swelling. Night time waking is common and it is often brought on by actions such as driving, holding a newspaper etc. A futuro splint may provide relief, as can steroid injections into the carpal tunnel or surgery. Weight loss can help some people but isnt always applicable/necessary.

Oh and yes, dangling or shaking helps sometimes!!

Sorry, when i said fourth i meant ring finger!! We call them digit 1,2,3 etc at work (NHS).

thanks

one thing is I can't remember or work out which fingers.......

weirdly it does seem to have settled down a bit, whereas I thought it would be stable or worsening type condition

I had this when pregnant and my GP offered me acupuncture. Despite not liking needles and being incredibly sceptical I tried it (it was free!) and it actually helped a lot.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is when the median nerve becomes compressed, usually, as said above, steroid injections, splints, or surgery to decompress the nerve are ways to treat it.

I was told when I first got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in pregnancy that it could go away on its own shortly after giving birth, but it didn't unfortunately. So I assume depending on the cause of it, it could of resolved itself, or eased off the nerve at least.

Yes sounds like carpal tunnel!
I had it in my right hand&had the op done in may
Tried the splint every night for3months but made no difference&where i am they dont offer the steroid jab anymore

I suffered with this for a couple of years and I found the splint did help. I was going to continue with this but the consultant advised that this is a condition that does not get better, though does seem to ebb and flow. If you leave it too long the operation is often unsuccessful. I had the op which was very quick last year. Tingling/pins and needles ceased immediately and you cannot see the scar. I was out of action for about 6-8 weeks but it would depend on what kind of job you have. He advised me not to wait too long with my other hand.

I suffered with carpal tunnel earlier this year. I wore wrist splints at night at first which really helped. Then I went for a private treatment called Bowen therapy which has completely got rid of my carpal tunnel. I even went for a nerve conduction test afterwards which confirmed I no longer had carpal tunnel!

I went for this as my mum had used same treatment about 15 years ago and it got rid of hers too. It's none invasive type of tissue manipulation. If you google it it tells you how it works and how to find a therapist. I had about 3 treatments to get rid of my cp and cost £75 which was worth not having injections or an operation to me!

Mine more or less went when I started thyroxine - and stopped having babies.
