Mooncup ladies, you all inspired me and I recently received mine just in time. I must be doing something wrong because I am getting some leaking. I do have a couple of heavy days, but the cup itself is not full up to the brim and yet it is definately 'catchin' most of the blood. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong - I so want this to work.

i would just try emptying more often. remember there are little holes beneath the rim so that might be where it;s coming from?

expatinscotland · 12/07/2006 14:46

once you insert it, give the base a twist or two to form a tighter seal.

glassofwine · 13/07/2006 12:41

I've given up, temporarily and will try again next month. I tried the twisting and all was fine, but then when I did it again, it leaked. The problem is I guess that I don't know when it feels right and when not. I will persever, but for now I'm getting a bit fed up.

Dinosaur - how are you getting on?

LOL.... im also a 1st time user and started using it on Monday.... with no problems at all

yesturday morning though it was leaking a bit... (even though like you it was not even nearly full and was obviosuly catching it...)

however that time when i put it in (tmi here!) it sort of went in sideways, and wasnt in quite right... i sort if twisted it around inside.... i dont think it was sealed all the way round...

when i removed it at lunch time and reinserted it it was fine...

The ONLY thing i think i did differently was that it didnt seem to go in right and i jiggled it around...

in future if it doesnt go in right i will remove it and start again...

Guess we are just getting used to it..

No leaks today either

Oh and i LOVE it... And have taken it swimming twice already

Mine did leak the first few times as well., I just wore a panty liner as extra protection just in case.
it's still nicer than using towels or tampons full tinme, even if you have to use a liner to catch any leaks

glassofwine · 13/07/2006 20:58

Glad to hear you're getting on well with it NannyL & Hairy - I did give up this afternoon, but had to buy some tampons as I'd chucked mine all out when the mooncup arrived. I had to get those ones with the applicator, which I don't normally get and it was so uncomfortable, sort of sticking out sorry if TMI. Got back from school run and thought, right go back to the mooncup and as hairy said, just use panty liners (or pantylions as DD calls them) - it's got to be better. But no leaks - so maybe i've got it right afterall. I guess it takes a little practice.

Maybe I need to do more pelvic floor exercises - three babies in three years have taken their toll.

It is largely a matter of getting it in right, and that's largely a matter of experience -- after a few months you just "know" when it feels as though it's in right.z\a

LeahE · 13/07/2006 21:06

z\a was DS's contribution (we're in "bashing the keyboard" mode right now)

glassofwine · 13/07/2006 21:40

I thought it was special mooncup code!
