Missing coil - where has it gone?

I've been to my local contraceptive/sexual health clinic to discuss my options after constant thrush (9 cases of it since January). I'm convinced my Mirena coil (fitted 4 yrs ago) is the cause!

The lovely nurse suggested I have it removed and then see if the thrush re-appears.

However when she looked for the threads she couldn't find them - yikes!

Now going to the doctor on Friday who will refer me to the hospital to have a scan.

Has this happened to anyone? Is it common?

The threads have never been felt by me as they are curled around my cervix - so I've been told. I went for a smear in Feb 2012 and they were there then!

I have had an ultrasound and X-ray and have been referred for a trans vaginal scan to find mine as it has gone AWOL. My coil is apparently somewhere in my pelvis but not necessarily where it is supposed to be. I have been advised to use other precautions to prevent pregnancy. My next scan isn't until 19th December and its only after that I will get referred to gynae!!

Oh my! Luckily I don't actually need the coil for contraceptive purposes, it was fitted for heavy/irregular periods.

Are you still getting a period? I get a 48 hour very light bleed.

I always thought I was pretty hot on anatomy, I thought the uterus would hold it in place and it not go floating about. has it travelled via your fallopian tubes then?

How will they remove it?

I had a scan last week. For me, the mirena is in the right place but the threads have curled up. Not a problem for now, just when it needs removing again!!

they can apparently migrate through the lining of the womb or get embedded in the tissues. may need some sort of surgical procedure if it isnt easily located

I had a scan last week to 'find' mine after the threads went missing - I couldn't find them, nor could the GP. A few weeks later they reappeared Confused - they must have been curled up somewhere, and the scan confirmed it's in the right place. It was abdominal, I didn't need the fanjocam (thank goodness, between 2 pregnancies with early bleeding and a mc I've had quite enough of those in the last few years Wink)

Yeah I've had my fair share too. Who would be a woman eh!

Got an abdominal scan followed by a vaginal scan on the 2nd January. Hoping it's found but the suppose I will have to wait for it to be removed!

This happened to me . I went to get mine out to ttc dc2 . The nurse couldn't see them either and told me I had to be referred to gynae . I was due a smear so she performed that while we were there and after the smear the strings appeared ! She thinks they were tucked right up and the smear dislodged them .
