Everything, like in slices through your body. It uses magnets that rotate. A bit loud and clanky. Do you have to go for one?

TiredDog · 19/11/2013 22:18

3dimensional images of the body. Like most imaging techniques they are better at something's than others

When you go to discuss the results with the doctor you can usually see the images on the screen, assuming it's a hospital referral. If you ask to see and for a simpleish explanation they should be happy to oblige. It is you, after all!

I was told to imagine I was on a beach in a warm country with a pleasant breeze blowing and a building site at the hotel next door! (Its warm and noisy!). That worked so well I fell asleep. Gp was happy to talk through images..chaps at hospital a little too harrassed and busy.

as said by matilda when discussing my results with the professor he had the mri pics up on a computer so he could explain the various parts being looked at.

Hi OP, I had an MRI as one of many tests for numbness in my hands and feet 2 years ago.

Are you having any other tests (I also had x-ray, ultrasound, CT of head and neck, EMG - electrical tests of nerve function, a lumbar puncture and about 3 gazillion blood tests ok 17 I counted the tubes )

Have they told you what they might be looking for? Or which areas they will be scanning (it was my body from head to hips that was done)?

They can see nerve damage, they can find a reason (and there are hundreds) why you might be losing sensation.

They did with me - mine is a very rare nerve disability only diagnosed 50x/year in the uk. But knowing what it was (and what it wasn't!!) was a huge relief.

Feel free to ask any more or pm me?

hi weegiemum, lovely to hear someone in a similar situation! so far i'v had blood tests, mri scan and the electrical tests. i think the mri was my neck and head only. i'm not sure what they are looking for?!! sometimes i think its connected to my back it's really sore at times. yes think the concern over what it is is the worst thing!

Hi just found this thread, I had an MRI on my head/brain on Monday as I have dizziness and numbness in hands, arms and face along with really bad headaches, it is now Thursday which suggests that there is nothing too sinister as I have not had a call, just told on the day to go back to GP in 14 days. I am being checked for MS, but I get stiffness as well as numbness and feelings of little electric shocks sometimes to0 when walking. Not sure I like the sound of electrical tests !!

hi young, they were fine, i was told they may hurt but i found them more ticklish!!
