Geographic tongue? Oral lichen planus? Painful!

Do Geographic Tongue and OLP go together? From what I've read GT isn't painful. My tongue looked more like OLP until a few days ago, and was painful. Now it looks like GT but is painful.

Dentist says it's "nothing sinister" but doesn't know what it is and is referring me to a specialist. He did not mention GT or OLP (I got them from Dr Google).

I'm wondering whether it might be related to my contact allergies.

Any experiences?

I think I have GT, it flares up now an again and is painful. I can't use really strong toothpaste or alcohol mouthwash. Salt and vinegar crisps are a no way as it makes my tongue so raw! I have only come to this conclusion from Google as well.

I have a GT and sometimes it is really really sore. And the cracks are just bizarre and HUGE. Some foods like tomatoes, anything with vinegar..no.

DO you have arthritis by any chance? I know OLP can go hand in hand (weirdly) with certain types!

Gt DOES hurt. Dd 1 has it and stings when eating acidic food.

I don't have arthritis, but I do have allergies. Aren't they both auto-immune conditions?

What do you do to relieve the pain?

Do you find that some foods make it worse one day, yet don't bother you another day?

This evening it has been particularly bothersome, and I happen to have discovered that drinking warm almond 'milk' is very soothing. Though the effect doesn't last long.

Spicy foods make it worse for me but mine isn't constant, it just flares now and again. There is no cure for it either and I have never discovered anything to sooth it so I will try the milk!

I'm pretty sure DS has GT. One of my sisters has it. She finds it painful. DS doesn't often complain about it, but he's a toddler.
