3 week period after nothing for 15 months!

I guess I need to make a dr's appt but wonder if anyone else has experienced something similar??

I am 46, experienced erratic periods for the last 5 years, with 15 months being the longest stretch without one then suddenly this! Confused.

Am up to date with smears, tho still waiting for the results of the latest one taken 4 weeks ago.

TIA

It is the menopause, surely?

Quite normal at 46 for this to happen, sadly!

Mum had this - no bleeding for a year, then a sudden bleed. The GP wasn't overly concerned but did do a smear/pelvic exam and referred her for an ultrasound. Seemingly after 12 months of no bleeding they expect you to have completed the menopause so any bleeding after 12 months should be checked.. Unlikely to be anything at all worrying though, my mum/her friend/her aunt all had the same x

It's about normal for women of your age. I wouldn't worry, and wouldn't bother the GP - they've got more than enough to do.

Changes in pattern of bleeding should always be checked out - never ignore a symptom solely because of age.

There are some potentially serious causes that should be ruled out. But as you are under 50 there is no need to be unduly worried; standard guidance is 2 years amenhorrhea before you can abandon contraception, because your ovaries might still have a last fling.

I'd had no periods for 4 months (also 46). Was told by GP contraception for two years from last period, but if I had any bleed after 12 months to go back to him.

I'd go back to your GP.

(Periods returned after 7 months - gutted lol!)

You should consider getting it checked out, for example the bleeding may be being caused by a uterine polyp which are quite straightforward to have removed.

Thank you for the replies.

I should have added that I am not in any pain, it is the annoyance factor of 3 weeks bleeding, especially after such a long absence and thinking I was on the home run for the menopause!

Hate visiting the dr for gynae problems, especially as I have had numerous smears over the last 18 months Hmm

Will make an appt tomorrow and try to stay away from googling uterine polyps am 'coming back as a man'

Middleaged. It is not wasting a GPs time. It may well be nothing but any bleeding after 12 months of no bleeding is classed as "post menopausal bleeding" usually means little but it is a warning sign so needs referral for a scan is essential. Hope you aren't ignoring anything yourself.
