Please talk to me about sinus operation (FESS)

I have seen an ENT doctor and he recommends sinus surgery (plus polyp removal).

Had problems for 20 years, more or less constantly. Blocked nose, snotty sinuses, nighttime breathing issues, etc.
Nasal spray (steroids) help, but I can't take em for years, can I?

Has anyone had this operation and did it really help? I'm feeling a bit wobbly about GA, had one just in March vor gallbladder op. Plus I'll need another CT scan and have had lots of those (4?) in the last 2 years.

WWYD?

I was referred for sinus surgery after symptoms like yours, ended up having my septum straightened and some inside tissue removed. Was 6 weeks ago and was best thing even, so much clearer breathing. I used to have to rely on decongestants and steroid nasal sprays.

Go for it!

olivo, sounds like what they planned for me. I'm glad you're feeling better! I cannot imagine a life without nasal congestion.

You definitely won't regret it

Watching with interest. I am waiting for a follow up with the consultant after a ct scan. He wants to do a septoplasty and sinus polyp removal. My symptoms are horrendous at the moment: total congestion, no smell or taste, cheek pain, ear ache etc.

Worried about the recovery in terms of pain and how quickly the symptoms go away.

I was on cocodamol NAND Ibuprofen for 24 hrs after ,to then paracetamol and ibuprofen for 48 hrs, then a couple f days of paracetamol, then nothing. Unfortunately, I got an infection after which delayed my recovery by a few days, but would have been back to work after 10 days.

I had to make sure DH was around for the first couple of days as it was a weekend and he took the kids out all day, then I was fine while they were at school and dealt with them after school etc, but rested while they were out.

Hope that helps you both, I was very wary but so pleased I had it done.

Work is another issue as I've just started a job which could develop into something permanent, so I cannot take two weeks off until xmas and then we're going away.

I know I should have this op done, but I've had so many in the last few years, argh. I always think it will not turn out ok this time. Silly, but hey.
