What is this upper abdo pain?

Basically, it started as a sharpish pain in my upper middle/left stomach. This was back in the early Spring. Seemed to be related to eating or being hungry. I went to the GP who gave me Lansoprazole (a low dose). She prescribed this as I told her I'd had a similar pain before and this had treated it. The pain then seemed to go after a couple of weeks.

However, it hadn't gone and I've since had it on and off over the past few months. It generally hangs around a bit then goes, so I haven't had it checked further.

About a fortnight ago, I had a 24 hour tummy bug and the pain flared up again and hasn't subsided. It's is now more of a nagging ache which can radiate to my back too.

I don't have any other 'stomach' symptoms (e.g heartburn, nausea, gas, bloating etc...), the area isn't tender to the touch. I've noticed that it gets worse when I'm physically active. It's fine during the night and when I get up in the morning, then it gradually comes on over the day, so that by late afternoon it can be quite sore. It's just below where my rib cage starts to curve around, about 5cm above the navel and to the left.

I wondered if any can't figure out what it is. I've got a GP appointment next week, but wondered if any of you might have any thoughts?

TIA

Gallstones? Stomach ulcer? Sorry you're not feeling well, good that you have an appt as it sounds quite unpleasant. Hope they can shed some light on it and give you some treatment.

Sounds like it might be something to do with your gall bladder.

LEMisafucker · 14/11/2013 16:11

Another vote for gallstones, especially with the pain radiating to your back. Keep a note of what you are eating and see if you notice any pattern.

Gallbladder normally to the right though.

Sorry I have no idea. Best get it seen to though

Thank you for your replies. It's actually much better today, but I find that often the case when I'm not at work (I have quite a physical job, on my feet all day).

Glad you're feeling better today. You're keeping your appt next week though? I ignored my intermittent abdo pain (could go weeks without a flare up) and it turned out to be gallstones. All sorted now, but with hindsight, I wish I had gone to the doc sooner. Not diagnosing you with the same thing, just sounds like your symptoms still merit the appt.

Hello
Just popped back to update after my GP appointment today.
She thinks it's gastritis, based on my information and has prescribed a month's worth of Lansoprazole (which I had before). She wants me to o back in a month to see if they are working.
Been quite bad the last couple of days, but was pretty good over the weekend. GP thought it could be stress related which I would agree with.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the exact symptoms.
