Look out for a bullseye kind of mark, that's one of the signs.

If I sound knowledgeable it's because DD2 had one on her arm last week and I ended up taking her to a and e to have it removed. .
The nice nurse told me that there are lots about this year.
i blame the bloke that owns the fiels behind our house, as he hasn't cut the grass for weeks and it is almost up to our fence.

its so odd as dd1 and 2 dont have them and they are the ones that play around in the long grass (dd3 is 10 weeks only!)

Not so unusual I am afraid to say. Ticks wait on stems of long grass and wait for a suitable host be it animal or human to come along. Its usually the nymphs rather than the adults which bite.

What did you use to remove it, I see you used a tick remover (tweezers?). A person should never burn the tick off or use alcohol. Hopefully you did not crush it or leave any of it in (particularly the head). A tick needs to be pulled out steadily and firmly a firm pulling motion taking care not to leave the head behind in the skin (this can cause infection).
