I had a hyst 3 1/2 months ago and need to work on my pelvic floor but am never sure I'm doing them right.
I want one of those electrical pelvic floor gizmos but can't spend £150 on one so wanted recommendations please?
Will they also tighten up my fanjita like they claim?

Yes, they work but take months (3-4). Don't buy the weights, however. I used them in the shower and one dropped out and hit my toe - Oooow! My electric one was about £50, I think.

The iphone apps are very good!

yes they work - I have neurotrac continence. but please don't use one without the guidance of a specialist gynae physio. they can be very powerful and you risk hurting yourself. if you have any possible nerve damage, you may not realise you are using it on too high a strength. also, the different programmes are set at different frequencies to simulate different types of muscle fibre. you need to know exactly what the weakness is (eg is it weak slow twitch fibres or weak fast twitch) to decide which programme is appropriate.

lastly, it may still be too early for you to be doing this kind of rehab.

your surgeon or go should be able to refer you. or, if you wanted to go privately, you have more options open to you. if you are in London, my physio is amazing.

Interestingly, if you read the new NICE Guidelines on the treatment of stress incontinence (Sep 13) you will see that electronic devices are not generally recommended because there is no evidence that they work! If you want to know why read The Kegel Legacy. Only £1.99 from Amazon and worth every penny!

I have tried to do kegels on their own (i mean with no devices) and don't think I'm doing it right.
I once got one of those pelvic floor toners (that looks like a dildo but has a spring) and tried that and it never moved even when I was squeezing as hard as I could! Confused
I thought NHS physios use the electrical toners?

dunno whether NHS uses eletrical ones - i'm being sorted out privately.

for some women with some types of pelvic floor problems, electronic stimulators work better than pfes to increase muscle strength. if the damage is so bad and the muscle tone is so poor, this extra boost can kick start the muscles and enable a woman to then go on to do pfes. they work. but you need professional guidance.

logically, it seems that they may therefore have a role in helping relieve stress incontinence, unless, nice now says that increasing pelvic floor strength has no role to play in the treatment of stress incontinence.
