Someone please tell me it will go away

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 12/11/2013 21:58

It will go away, but the chances if it returning are high I'm afraid.

SweetSkull · 12/11/2013 22:02

But why?
I never had it before.
And it isn't thrush.
The guy behind the counter in boots didn't want to believe me that I wanted Canesten just for itching skin NOT thrush...kept asking me if I was sure in from of other customers. how embarrassing.

hiddenhome · 12/11/2013 22:12

Canestan cream will treat other types of fungal infection. Fungal skin infections can become chronic though. If you have it due to heat and rubbing it may return.

SweetSkull · 12/11/2013 22:18

GP prescribed Canestan and Daktarin.
I bought both but I am using Daktarin at the moment.
Don't know why this infection appeared since nothing really changed. Not abnormal heat and not rubbing or shafting...

OP posts:
sweetskull · 23/11/2013 23:04

So, 1 tube of daktarin gone and I opened another one today.
The instructions say 10 days treatment which was yesterday, but even though the skin looks a lot better and it itchy less and less, It is still not clear.
Anyone had similar problem?

I had this afew years ago

Doctor told me it was related to being over weight

NoComet · 23/11/2013 23:10

I got rid of mine by accident.

Didn't know it was a fungal infection, just thought it was my fat thighs rubbing together.

Was prescribed strong anti fungal pills for a toe nail infection, rash went away never to be seen again.

Best drug side effect, ever Grin

Rhianna1980 · 23/11/2013 23:13

I had it once and it took a long time to go away with medication . See the doctor if in doubt. Mine looked really bad... I had 2 : one on lower inner thigh and one my calf! Itched like mad and looked awful! Caught it from the gym mat my doctor thinks as gyms harbour bacteria ... Mats are never cleaned , they are full of sweat and dampness and bacteria and never see the sun , perfect for it to live and spread...
Try not to touch it as it can spread easily. Keep it dry too. I used antiseptic to clean the surrounding area... It was so sore.

sweetskull · 23/11/2013 23:22

It is not due to weight either. And I don't go to the gym.

I am going to the doctor and ask for anti fungal pills.

I am now thinking it could be psoriases.
Will have to go to the GP and tell her.
Last time she took only a 5 seconds look on the affected area and prescribed...I thought she might have magic powers.

I have pityriasis versicolour which is a yeast fungal thing on my back. And yep the fucker keeps coming back. Nothing to do with being over-weight, some people are just susceptible. The fungus loves naturally on most people without causing a rash but on some it does.

It's a pain in the arse to be honest.

sweetskull · 23/11/2013 23:38

How did you get diagnosed and how do you treat it?

OP posts:
LittleTulip · 23/11/2013 23:40

It started to discolour my skin a little bit, just lighter patches. Doc diagnosed it. Gave me an anti-dandruff prescription shampoo to wash with and it worked. Although was on antibiotics at one point which made it worse so have also had a weeks worth of anti fungal tablets. I just have to wash with the anti dandruff shampoo once weekly/fortnightly to keep it at bay but it's remembering!

sweetskull · 23/11/2013 23:49

Ok, so is it terribly itchy?
I am not sure if I have the same?

OP posts:
LittleTulip · 23/11/2013 23:55

Mines not itchy at all it's just discoloured my skin, wouldn't have noticed otherwise! Yea you probs have something different but I guess fungal infections work the same way and they grow in hot humid conditions.

Hobblethwaite · 24/11/2013 00:16

Sorry to jump on the thread but I think I have the same condition as you littletulip. Just googled and it's exactly the same.

Can I ask will any anti dandruff shampoo work or is your prescription strength? Thanks

LittleTulip · 24/11/2013 00:43

You can use selsun which you can buy over the counter or get ketoconazole which is on prescription. I've used both. For first treatment you have to put it on the area before showering, leave for 20 mins then wash off - do this for 5 days then follow up once a fortnight. The only thing is you will have killed the fungus BUT the discolouration of skin takes ages (normal skin turnaround) so I exfoliate regularly to move it along Smile

Valpollicella · 24/11/2013 00:51

I would recommend grapefruit seed extract - it's anti fungal and anti bacterial. You can drink it as well as put it in a bath

TheFuzz · 25/11/2013 12:23

Lamisil is also very effective.

sonlypuppyfat · 25/11/2013 12:27

sweetskull · 25/11/2013 13:05

sweetskull · 25/11/2013 14:23

Thanks sonly. I have another GP appointment tomorrow morning so will ask for tablets. Do I find conotrane on the shelves or over the counter? Have you tried daktarin or canesten?

OP posts:
sonlypuppyfat · 25/11/2013 17:11

Yes the Conotrane is on the counter my DD used to have nasty nappy rash. I have used thrush cream too that was good I hope it clears up for you.
