hypersensitivity in children

I wondered whether any Mumsnetters have any experience of their child being hypersensitive?
When my son,now 4 and half was in playgroup he was referred by the hv to a physio because he was walking on tiptoe - we went and it was found that his Achilles tendon was quite tight and we were given exercises to do at home. They also found that he lacked upper body strength and he finds holding a pencil properly difficult (though he's really quite good at it now). The physio also though he might have over-sensitivity to various sensations (ie. he is very ticklish and will say 'ouch' sometimes if you touch him on his hips). He has now been referred to an Occupational Therapist and is having treatment for this.Generally he's a bright, happy and I think pretty smart boy but is just very cautious about certain things- climbing up apparatus at school for example. I'm trying not to worry but I feel a bit bewildered with all this intervention - I imagine they know best, but sometimes it all feels a bit excessive. Any ideas ?

Don't know if this is the same thing at all but I have noticed my son is very sensitive to loud noises and is always commenting on noises. He isn't the best sleeper (although now better since putting his cot in our room), talks in his sleep, is very cautious about climbing frames and nervous about heights. Also very ticklish! But on the whole seems happy and I just think this is the type of boy he is.

Manky - yes,I think that my son is just that type of boy too- He has always slept well since he was a baby and will sleep even if you go into his room, put the lights on and stamp around !! doesn't seem to mind fireworks and loud noises, but is afraid of things like hairdryers, going upstairs if the lights not on,going into strange places etc - all quite reasonable I'd have thought.
