Has partner got an sti?

DP had very painful testicles, stomach pains and feeling sick with a high temp. It happened the other day but went away. He could barely walk with the pain. Anyway, the gp said he could have epididymitis and sent him home with antibiotics.
He has had pains there in the past, since his teens.
I googled the diagnosis and apparently men can get epididymitis from chlamydia and ghonorhea and bacteria. We got tested when we first got together (to be safe) six years ago and I got tested again when I was pregnant over a year ago.
Does this sound like an sti or something else? I have no symptoms

Did the doctor send him home just with antibiotics - or did he ask him for a sample to investigate further? If not; I would ask for one. Something seems to be missing in this scenario - either you are not getting a full story from your DP or the G.P has missed full testing.

I think you are jumping to conclusions here. Sti's are not the only cause

gp took a water sample and said there wasn't a urinary tract infection, but didn't do any further tests.
Because it was out of hours, we had to call first and the gp asked him over the phone if he thought it could be an sti and he said no. The first thing he said to me was 'If I've got anything it's come from you' which was upsetting and seemed a bit quick to defend himself. I have been completely faithful to him.
I realise it may not be an sti, but it's still got me thinking

If I ever get bother with my bits I go to the clinic for a check up. It may be an sti clinic but it's still the best place to check out your bits.

If you're worried go yourself and get checked out just to rule it put and then work on him. Something doesn't sound happy in his shorts area.

Plenty of ways to get infections that don't involve infidelity, OP. And epidydmitis isn't always the result of an infection.

docpeppa · 12/11/2013 13:24

I think I just freaked out a bit when I googled it, he's going to see his own gp and ask for a scan. I think I may go and get tested anyway, put my mind at rest.
Cheers everyone

Epididymitus can be caused by bacterial infections, and it's quite common and can re-occur, usually cured by a course of antibiotics, but can take time. An STI is a potential cause, but not the most common.

He could be prone to it.

Can I assume he hasn't had the snip, as you've had a child within the last year ?

That's very common in men who have had a vasectomy - I've had conjestive epididymitis a year since my snip. Just had one epididymis removed to help reduce the pain.
