Does anyone know if it's OK to give Calpol/Nurofen with Amoxicillin?

Ds1 (4) has been prescribed Amoxicillin and he took his first dose today. His temp is high so I wanted to know if I could continue with Calpol/Nurofen at the same time as the AB. Have called NHS Direct but they said it could be a long wait.

Yes it is fine to give calpol and nurofen on top of the amoxil.
They are all 3 different drugs so they can be given on top of each other

Dd4 has had Amoxil a few times and has always had calpol with it. She can't have ibrufen because of her athsma but I was told by the doctor and the chemist they are fine given together and that its better if you stagger the calpol and the ibrufen.

Blandmum · 09/07/2006 15:42

yes, no problems at all, as they all work in different ways. Have double checked it in 'Stockleys Drug Interactions' the standard book on drug interaction in the UK

chapsmum · 09/07/2006 15:52

yip, no problems at all. antibiotics are different from calpol and Ibuprfen. they can be given together. Ideally Amoxil should be given on an empty stomach and brufen should be given with something to eat so you could stagger the doses.

thanks so much everyone, will give him some Calpol now. What would I do without MN???

Yes expat, it is awful. Both dss are suffering and are just collapsed on the sofa - really wish they were running around antagonising everyone and causing havoc as usual.

Oh, no, saadia! Bet that's so hard on you. Try to get some rest whilst they are resting - I know how hard the nights can be and you're probably worrying as well.

mears · 09/07/2006 15:58

Yes they are all fine together but you know that already now saadia. Hope they get better soon

saadia · 09/07/2006 16:38

saadia
how are the boys today? hope they are doing better.

saadia · 11/07/2006 08:48

expat, thanks for asking I really appreciate it. The boys are better, no temperature but still not eating and still with diarrhoea. But the've perked up a lot and are playing. Unfortunately I caught the bug as well so yesterday was pretty bad - diarrhoea, temperature, exhaustion - feeling better today though and my mum is coming to stay for a few days as well so that will help a lot. Hopefully we'll be back to normal in a couple of days. Hope all is well with you.

Yes, it's absolutely fine to give Calpol (paracetamol) or Nurofen (ibuprofen) alongside Amoxicillin. They work in different ways, so there's no interaction between them. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that treats the infection, while Calpol and Nurofen help with fever and discomfort. Just be sure to follow the correct dosage instructions for your little one’s age and weight.

My daughter recently had a bacterial throat infection and was also prescribed Amoxil (Amoxicillin). It worked wonderfully for her, and she started feeling better within a couple of days. I ordered it from this trusted pharmacy – world-delivery-service.com/buy-amoxil-uk.html. The order arrived quickly, and the medication was very effective.

Hope your DS1 feels better soon! 💕

The original tread was from 2006, hopefully the OP’s DS is now a healthy young adult.
