Warning signs for heart attack?

I am 13 st. 5 lbs and 42. Been stressed for a while (3 kids, full time senior job, threatened redundancy, as a result of redundancies, increased workload for everyone else). Been eating rubbish, not exercising as much, drinking more than recommended wine allowance), suspected sleep apnoea and on local steroids for a flare up of ulcerative colitis. My dad had a heart attack at 46 (still alive). One of his sisters died of a heart attack at 52 ( she smoked as well -I don't do that). Anyway, woke up with pains in my chest towards the left which lasted about 10 mins. Took an aspirin but it has gone away this morning. Took some gaviscon this morning for indigestion. Do you think I should have a check over with the GP? I occasionally get jaw pain as well. Any other similar stories. I drink about 28 units a week, sometimes more if have friends over at weekend.

I certainly think you should, but I also think you need to do more than that and work out ways of reducing the stress and the amount of alcohol. Can you find a way to do some swimming or other exercise?
Good luck with the first steps in changing it all.

I agree GP would not be unhappy to see you.

Even if it is just angina you can help yourself by being proactive, getting your BP checked (maybe do that today in a local pharmacy? if you don't want an OOH appointment). I don't want to worry you but want you to be aware that many women don't experience the classic soap opera crushing chest pain and yet still have damage (heart attacks) that appear on ECG.

Don't just ignore it and hope it will go away, you obviously have family history and other indicators.
