Hiya,

Had bloods taken Thursday this week, doctor rang me this afternoon to tell me the results were unexpected and I need to redo them in a weeks time.

My background is that I had glandular fever badly at the age of 15 which I felt did a real number on my health and really I was never the same after. I self diagnosed myself with ME in my twenties and followed a careful low/ no sugar diet, hardly any refined products and managed to get my energy back to the point that I could work full time again.

I am now 38 and had my son nearly a year ago. I went to the doctors to check my thyroid was ok and she decided to do a full blood work up on me just to check other things like anaemia etc. She said that whilst those results were absolutely fine, my blood cells showed abnormalities under the microscope and she said I am going through an acute episode of glandular fever. When I told her I had had it as a teenager she said that you only get it once and she didn't think you would still be showing these kind of results 20+ years after having had it.

I will have another set of bloods taken next week and I guess we shall see whether they are still showing these abnormalities.

I guess my question is, is this likely to give me an ME diagnosis if my cells are showing permanent changes and my more scared hysterical self is wondering, could this be a marker for anything else sinister going on? Like might they go looking for other reasons re. these cell abnormalities or is it very specific to glandular fever only?

Thank you

Just to add I am not showing any outward symptoms of glandular fever, ie sore throat, crushing tiredness etc - again which she was surprised about.

Bump. Didn't want to read and run. There must be someone on mn who may have an idea. Maybe re-post on Chat for more traffic?

EBV, Epstein Barr Virus, (glandular fever) is with you forever once you have it! I had it two years ago, have just become a little run down recently, have been told I have it again.

It is perfectly possible, according to my doc, to get it again. It is a virus and in your bloodstream, after all.

You need to rest and look after yourself, good news your doctor is doing all these checks.
Get well soon.
