Mirena coil and constant thrush infections!!

Anyone have problems with their Mirena IUD?

I've had it in for 4 years now and I am blighted with thrush, I get it once a month at least, often 24 hours after sex (not always though) and after my period has ended. I've had it TWICE this week.

I am so fed up of it. I also get terrible breast tenderness which I never had before. But the thrush is the worst! I had it fitted for heavy/irregular periods and although I still have a period it is VERY light and only last 48 hours or so. I am so tempted to have it taken out? Any experience ladies?

Hi everyone, really interested in this post. I have just had my coil removed after months of pelvic pain and thrush. The doctor finally decided that the thrush bacteria had got trapped in the coil threads and the threads were providing easy access into the pelvis. So happy my coil is out, I'm hoping all will disappear now.

I'm the original poster (changed name) I split with my partner in December 2013 and had the coil removed in February 2014. It actually went awol and had totally moved up into my uterus.

Once I had the coil out the thrush stopped. But I also wasn't having sex!

I met my new partner in September 2014 and had a second coil fitted in November 2014. Regular sex but NO thrush. I'm now convinced my ex partner was constantly re infecting me!

I've had thrush once since then. Coil now removed and I'm waiting for a hysterectomy- but that's a whole other story

I have had my mirena in for a little over a year. All was fine until this easter and I started to get yeast infections. And im sad because i gave it to my boyfriend we both got treated. But my yeast infections keep coming back. I have it about three times since Easter. Can any one give me any advice on what to do. Thank you.

Hi, did you find a solution to this problem?

binellasara · 09/04/2023 23:41

My gynaecologist is making me feel like everything I read on the Internet is all rubbish and not due to the coil! I have had repeated thrush infections and discharge and foul smell . I don’t know what to do anymore. I think the only option is to take it out.? The problem is I took it because I can’t take the contraceptive pill as does not agree with me . I am only 28 and it’s making me feel really uncomfortable.

Hi Betty, this has made me feel so much better because everyone’s making me feel like I’m going mad including the gynaecologist!!! She says it’s not down to the coil?? But I never had any problems like this before I have had STDs all ok… taken loads of antibiotics clears up
and I then comes back!! I’m just worried about having painful periods when I have it removed. Also concerned with pmt coming back ! But I think I am better off, moving it for a break
