Knee pain!

I've been suffering with knee pain for the last few months.

It's in the back of my left knee on the right and goes round into my inner knee kind of horizontally if that makes sense?

Went to the gp who said probably bakers cyst and referred me for an ultrasound. When the hospital got the referral they returned it saying that an MRI would be better. Gp can't make a direct referral for an MRI so I have been referred to the orthopaedic clinic who will have a look and decide if I need an MRI or not.

Anyway, I now have a lump at the front of my left knee, to the right of and slightly below my kneecap. My knee is bloody sore Hmm

If I've been sitting, my knee is really stiff and painful when I get up and eases after a few steps. If I get up in the night it's stiff too - almost fell over a few nights back.

I can also feel the pain spreading - last night and this evening it's been in the grove below my kneecap.

Dr Google helpfully suggested it may be a tumor Shock

So just wondered - anyone had similar? Any ideas what it could be?

Oh, no locking or grinding, Gp said good range of movement but tenderness over popliteal something.

Anyone?

DH had a lump on his knee like that, and it was a split in the cartilage that was acting like a valve, pumping fluid into the cartilage. An arthroscopy to remove the damaged cartilage sorted it out.

Thanks CMOT - did he injure his knee or did it happen spontaneously?

Haven't done anything to injure it that I can think of.

Spontaneous, though he'd had cartilage damage in that knee years before

The causes of the pain vary, but often come from tendonitis and the breakdown or irritation of the cartilage at the base of the kneecap. additional causes include cycling, rowing running and walking down hills or stairs, arthritis, cartilage injury and dislocation or fracture of the kneecap. Actually I have read a <a class="break-all" href="//url=<a class="break-all" href="http://www.amazon.com/Beating-Patellar-Tendonitis-Treatment-Pain-free/dp/1491049731"?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-general-health-1901827-Knee-pain" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.amazon.com/Beating-Patellar-Tendonitis-Treatment-Pain-free/dp/1491049731" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">book about patellar tendonitis and according to that there are variety of treatments such as Ice and heat applications, Stretching exercises, Physical therapy, Anti-inflammatory medication etc.. So you should concern an expert and get treated ASAP !!!

Thanks Kennedy, will look into that.

The Gp has fucked up my referral again - it's been returned to them incomplete so will keep chasing.

If nothing comes through soon I'll think about going private.
