Idiots guide to Coeliac Disease

I got a letter today from DDs consultant saying that she has a positive blood test for coeliac. Does this mean she has coeliac disease? I know it does and we see the consultant tomorrow. Feeling all at sea and in a little shock. Been googling ever since I got it. She is only 4 and its a lot for such a small body.

So, I have some gf cereal for breakfast, a cupboard solely for gf food and know I need another toaster. What else do I need to do?

Trying to focus on the positives of an early diagnosis but now I've sat down I feel overwhelmed.

You may be jumping the gun a bit - the blood test is not conclusive.

Interesting to read your experience OP.

My dd is 9 and had a positive blood test (extremely high), however, she still had to have a biopsy last Tuesday and although the intestines and stomach are inflamed, we have still been told not to go gf, until the results from those are back in.

The time from blood testing until biopsy was horrendous and even now she still has diarrhoea and tummy aches. I have been cutting down some of the obvious things, but not all at the moment, until we get the definitive results, which should be tomorrow.

Like you, I feel a bit overwhelmed by it, although we will manage. I am interested to hear your dd hasn't had to undergo a biopsy, did they tell you what the results of the test were?

hi, did your child end up also having a positive biopsy result? my daughter has had a very high ttg blood test result of over 100 and I am waiting for her to get an appointment at hospital now, for coeliac diagnosis. she is lucky in that she has hardly any tummy pain and no diarrhoea, she has just been very tired and unfortunately hasn't grown for about 18 months. (she is 12) I think she has to have a biopsy and to be honest I think that's best as then I know 100% it is coeliac as I have read that high ttg can also mean diabetes type 1 or some types of cancer, which is scaring me silly. But just wonder how likely it is for the biopsy to come back not CD even though blood test results suggest it....
