driving when DVLA have to be notified

If you have a condition that you have to notify DVLA of then can you drive after you have told them and before you have heard from them?
My Dad has nystagmus (eye problem) and has found out online that he has to tell DVLA so he's done that but their website doesn't say if he is allowed to drive whilst he is waiting to hear from them.
Any ideas please?

If he has an illness/condition that needs to be notified I would say he shouldn't be driving until they say it's fine or not. It could invalidate his insurance if he has an accident with a reportable condition.

We weren't sure because the GP hasn't told him not to drive and he reckons he is OK, it's because he searched on google about nystagmus and driving that he found out.

Legally he can drive unless told otherwise by the DVLA.

However, like any other road user he is responsible for his own road safety, so if in doubt he should not drive. If he were involved in an accident his insurance may not pay out, he may need to live with having hurt somebody. Gps can give a recommendation, there are very few conditions with which your dr will tell you not to drive (epileptic fits being one of them).

Fair point. I have said he shouldn't anyway even if he feels that he can.
