DH has type 2 diabetes. His diet has always been bad. I put on 5 stone after we got together but lost it on a VLCD. Although not clinically overweight he has a massive tummy.
He completely ignores the advice given to him, refuses to give up sugar - he stopped having it in coffee - only. He eats a massive amount at home - least twice as much as me and teenage DDs. Tantrums if I don't give him massive portions or pointedly makes himself a sandwich straight after dinner. He refuses to eat most fresh or non processed food.
He did ask the nurse at the diabetes clinic about a VLCD after the publicity about the success at a hospital but she dismissed it. I think he needs some sort of medical help to learn to eat properly or a supervised VLCD.
He is only 43 but I doubt he will make it to 50 the way he is going. The hospital see him once a year and that is it. He has been on a healthy eating course and has joined the diabetes society but refuses to change his diet - if anything it has got worse. I wondered if anyone knows of any other hospital supervised healthy eating programmes? We are in London.
