Itchy arms after showering driving me mad

After showering my arms particularly get soooo itchy, I've tried SLS free shower gel but it doesn't appear to be helping, I've tried wearing rubber gloves to wash up, I've tried E45 shower cream, I use moisturiser. I don't have eczema. Anyone else get this?

I found E45 and a lot of moisturisers made me itchy!

Is it the washing powder on the towels?

AlexTurnersmicropone · 01/11/2013 21:37

I'm going to try switching to non bio for washing clothes, but I never get itchy with my clothes, it's always after showering.

I get this on my legs the only way I stop it is baby oil gel - a bit random but helps - no idea why though.

AlexTurnersmicropone · 01/11/2013 21:46

Is that Johnsons baby oil?

Firstly take an antihistamine for itch. Secondly does this happen at certain times of the month ? Could it be hormonal ? I am 47 and find this happens just before my period am putting it down to peri menopause :(

Try buying a bottle of aloe vera gel and slathering that on before and after your shower/bath. Try and use unscented products on your skin. Also use a fragrance free body lotion every day. Be sure and exfoliate in the shower with a wash cloth and a gentle oatmeal bath/scrub. (raw quick oats tied in cheesecloth or an old knee high. I let it soak in the water, then use it to wash with)

Yes Johnsons baby oil gel ! I have no wisdom on the subject though!

I had this a few years ago. It was impossible not to scratch so I ended up with really painful rashes on my arms/wrists. it turned out I'm allergic to a preservative called methylisothiazolinone (sp?!). It's in loads of things but in this case it was my shampoo (Head and Shoulders!) and the suds were running down my arms. have you changed your shampoo or conditioner lately?

Aloe vera soap/shower gel then aloe vera moisturiser. Jason brand at holland and barratt is good

Thank you so much for all the thoughts and suggestions, I am in my 40's and could be peri menopausal although periods regular as clockwork still.

I've heard aloe vera from other people so I think I'll look into that.

I get this on my legs. It's worse in winter. No idea why. Sorry!

AlexTurnersmicropone · 02/11/2013 07:46

I get it on my legs after shaving which I guess is ingrowing hairs as when I don't shave my legs they are fine.

Try Sanex hypoallergenic shower gel.

AlexTurnersmicropone · 02/11/2013 08:00

Tried the Sanex shower gel, didn't work sadly.
