I started a theead the other day about my god awful thrush and possible self diagnosed rectocele.

I've got a doc appt this morning. Help me be brave an speak to my amazingly good looking GP

I'm petrified I might get there and just make some thing up about my finger being painful Etc

Will he want to look?

Be brave! The sooner you tell him the sooner you can be getting treatment to sort it all out. I would think he will need to look so that he can refer you to the right place. Remember it is his job, he will want to make you comfortable and ultimately better.

bitpissedoffactually · 01/11/2013 09:25

Yes, he will want to look - because he chose to go into General Practice, spent several years studying in order to do so and will want to make you better. If he had an aversion to female parts he would have gone into a different area of medicine Smile

I had to show my -ahem- bottom to our GP and started the consultation by smiling and saying "this is going to be a lot more embarrassing for me than it is for you". He laughed and assured me it would be nothing he hadn't seen before.

Be brave (and let us know how you get on)

bitpissedoffactually · 01/11/2013 09:26

Just to clarify - it was me who said it would be embarrassing, not the doctor Grin

BitsinTatters · 01/11/2013 09:40

Oh god can't I just tell him then ask to see a nurse / last doctor

A doctor will need to see it. If you want a female doctor, ring back and change appt, one probably won't be available to examine you then as they will have their own patients.

I look at fannies and boobs all day long. It's like looking at someone's elbow, there is no "oh my god look at that!" Factor to it AT ALL. His internal reaction will be the same as if you'd showed him your finger, they are all body parts to him, I promise!

BitsinTatters · 01/11/2013 09:49

There are no female doctors at the practice

I feel sick and keep having panic attacks

It will be over in minutes, I think I have a rectocele too and really need to go but daren't! I had thrush the other day but luckily they prescribed over the phone.

BitsinTatters · 01/11/2013 10:26

How do I say it?

OP posts:
Twinklestarstwinklestars · 01/11/2013 11:04

That you have thrush and possible rectocele just be straight the thrush shouldn't need looking at of you describe your symptoms and if you describe the other problems that may be ok too and he may just refer you. If you really don't want to show him say so, just say you feel uncomfortable they aren't going to force you but it could be a male doctor wherever they refer you to.

BitsinTatters · 01/11/2013 13:20

He's referred me to gynea

I didn't show him. He also gave my a tablet for the thrush.

So what will happen now?

OP posts:
Twinklestarstwinklestars · 01/11/2013 15:32

Did he want you to show him or just said he'd refer you?

BitsinTatters · 01/11/2013 16:09

He asked to see but I was crying too much so he said not to worry

OP posts:
bitpissedoffactually · 01/11/2013 21:42

The important thing is that you went, got a tablet and a referral. Don't worry about the crying, just make sure you keep the gynae appointment and let them take care of you.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 02/11/2013 08:31

Well done for going, hope you get it sorted soon
