I've had mine since i gave birth just over 2 years ago. It has got worse since i had dd2 a few months back. cream doesn't seem to work (plus i stopped after 2 weeks because of an allergy reaction)
i thought it was suppose to stop when u had given birth.

if they bother you, go and see the GP

in certain circumstances they can do minor ops to get rid of them (especially if they are really bothersome)

foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 17:03

don't know if it makes a difference, was just wondering if other people did that aswell

PrettyCandles · 06/07/2006 17:05

Mine came out each time I gave birth and never fully shrank away until I stopped bfing. I found that pelvic floor exercises helped, especially if I did them while pushign the 'grape' back in with my finger (sorry, possibly TMI). Pushing them back always made a difference as they hurt much less on the inside. But when they're big they hurt and itch all the time.

Have you tried using the homeopathic cream (horse chestnut, IIRC, but can't remember the proper name)? You can get it in most chemists and supermarkets.

treatment options

foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 17:06

yes, I found that was true PC - they definitely are more comfortable once shoved back inside (but I think mine are pretty much permanently out now)

mili · 06/07/2006 17:06

I was alright with all my children but have had them recently and was complaining to the doctor that I'm stuck with them for the rest of my life. he said more and more people have them than not these days due to poor diet alot of the time. I was using normal Anusol and it was no good the doctor prescribed me Proctosedyl Ointment "Wow" what a difference. No pain, no itching and they have shrunk. I was using Anusol for a month and I have only used this cream for 5 days (you have to use it for 7 days and then stop as it contains a little bit of steroid). Try it and see.

PrettyCandles · 07/07/2006 09:56

Oh yes, I had forgotten that I got Proctosedyl from the GP, and it definitely is WOW!

I get these when pg and it def. helps to make sure your poos are soft, so eat loads of fibre (fruit and veg rather than bran), keep up with drinking loads of water, and if really bad take lactulose, although laxatives can't be used all the time. Also watch how you sit - whilst pg I couldn't sit on our leather sofa, and also on a low sofa we have in our playroom. Even how you sit can make a difference - don't cross your legs. I have huge sympathy, piles are worse than toothache IMO - in fact I'd rather have another section than my piles come back!

There is an aromatherapy recipe in "The Fragrant Pharmacy" that really works and I have given it to friends and used it myself. Sorry haven't got it to hand right now, but give it a go if you can.

mili · 07/07/2006 18:23

thanks everyone, i'll try all, especially that proc thingy.

I have had them pretty much all my adult life. they just got worse after having kids. I have tried every cream and treatment on the planet and the only thing that works is Proctofoam. And it really does work!!!
